Full Version: So was Shadow of the Colossus' fps limited?

I ran the game at 60fps with some drops to 40-45fps but it's as if the game runs on 15-30 fps like on an original PS2.
yes the maximum FPS you get on SotC is ~20

the game uses a weird Frameskipping and Vu cycling to get it done on PS2
PCSX2 reports virtual fps, not real fps. If you're getting frame dips go down the list of speedhack combos in this order:

SOTC is a curious game... it wants to run at 60fps on pcsx2 even though it was 30fps on ps2. Setting EE to 2 will lock exploration to 30fps but you'll still get dips to 20fps during battles (regardless of your PC specs). I couldn't find a setting to get universal 30fps
I see... I'll tweak the settings some more and I'll report back what i get
Alright I found some stuff after testing it a bit:

Best Shadow of the Colossus Configuration:

* Enable all speedhacks
* Disable any gamefixes
* VU Cycle Stealing: EE 2 VU 2
* 50-60fps exploration, 30fps average battle/unmounted Agro around
(most consistent and optimum settings in my experience, and even smoother than on an original PS2)
* Slight slowdown when bringing up the map
* Slight slowdown when entering/exiting the shrine
* Some wierd shadow on Wander's model in certain angles
* Runs EVEN smoother fps if using Native resolution
