Something I've always wonder about PCSX2 is that if i something like VLC in the background listening to music will it cause a slow down for the emulator? Sorry for asking such a stupid sounding question but it's been on my mind for the longest time now.

Anything which uses processing power (VLC included) will slow down the emulator by a percentage yes.
