On my system using ESC to quit on 9.6.0 doesn't work, all it seems to do is alt tab, kinda. It might be something else at work, but I think the ESC to quit thing needs looked at.

If you're using LilyPad, make sure you have LilyPad's fullscreen escape hack disabled. It'll interfere with PCSX2's option. You can also try LilyPad's own quit on escape option, but it doesn't quit nicely.
