So I did it! I bought a used copy at Gamestop for $12, and hoping to assuage my desire to play this on my PC I made an ISO, downloaded the emulator, and ta da! But no! 20 FPS? I just can't do it, it's excruciating! I don't want to upgrade my computer; I'm hoping you can tell me if I'm gonna have to either do that, or just give up my project all together.

If you've read through my little drama and feel like offering advice, here are my specs.

Final Fantasy 12---is my computer not good enough for you?

CPU-AMD 64 3000
Video- GeForce 7950 512mb
RAM- 2gb corsair XMS
MOBO- Asus A8ne

----FYI: I've done some research on my own, downloaded the latest graphic plugin on the site here, and read through some other's posts. I've also tried tinkering with the settings, but I have no idea what most of the stuff means. It really mystifies me. I've managed to get it playable at times, but just barely--also the movies really suffer in the FPS department. To sum it up---this is a real debacle. But if anyone can help me, I know the experts on this forum can, so thanks!

Lets see cpu has only one core ( recommended 2 cores), speed low - 2.0Ghz, FFXII is gpu demanding so yours is nowhere near close, check native box on GSDX, try using speedhacks, go to advance options and check the boxes of Flush to Zero and Denormals are Zero.
Your GPU is GOOD,your CPU is BAD..Tongue
Try overclocking your CPU,and using speed hacks in the PCSX2 0.9.6 - read the guides online, there are a few guides here also..Smile

GPU mnimal recommended nvidia 8600 ati hd2600
I don't want to insult, but just because they are newer in series,it doesn't meant that they are better...7950 has 512MB of DDRIII ram and has a 256-bit memory width ,while 8600 and 2600 have averagely 256MB(a few models have 512MB but that is useless) and 128-bit memory width which affects it's memory bandwidth and as such performance overall..So,generally speaking, without the 8600 and 2600 useless DX10,the 7950 GPU is better in ANY view..Smile
512mb without the power to fully use mean nothing, you could get 9400 with 1gb means nothing, Dx10 is not useless i can get double speed in some games less glitches too, Dx10 is way better, seems like 7950 doesn't fully support dx10, i never recommended 8600 i just said it was the minimal, it should at least be 8800 or 9600.
GPU is ok, CPU is too slow I'm afraid.

the 7950's better than the 8600.. Unless it's the 7950 I'm thinking of... But the 7900GT was good.
FFXII should be playable on a singlecore without a problem due to the fact that it's very, very gpu demanding.

A decent gpu + single core should do the work.

Uh you are totally wrong. A single core will only be enough for 2D games,no 3D game will work decently. FFXII is GPU demanding, but it is also CPU demanding (not like other games but still). So you really also need a good dual core at about 2,4 Ghz even if you have a 285 GTS or something.
Think that the GS isn't threaded on single core mode,so all the GPU load the game has also gets loaded on the first (and only) core, making it super slow Tongue
