Full Version: Just bought a new cpu- question about heat?

Tuanming: Err... First off, no the Phenom 1 chips are far far worse than Phenom II. Not just because Phenom I's are almost completely unable to be overclocked, but clock for clock they are quite a bit slower. An upgrade to a phenom II should be a noticeable speed up.

As for the temperatures in general... The phenom II is running way hot... You shouldn't be running at 60c even under max load, let alone half load! You need to get a better aftermarket cooler (any computer store will carry one). Just remember to thoroughly clean off all of the old thermal paste before installing the new... If you don't have any rubbing alcohol on hand, I find that my wife's nail polish remover works wonderfully (don't ask, I was desperate when I was lapping my CPU)
