Greetings. Is there any1 with an e8400 core 2 duo cpu? I found one for a pretty cheap price and i was curious how it performs with pcsx2. Currently i own a core 2 duo 4600 which doesn't really seem to do the job. Also an amd athlon ii x3 @2.7ghz, that does pretty much better with the mtvu hack. Do you think a cheap e8400 will be worth it? My current mobo support it so it can be a cheap small upgrade. I am especially interested in listening the fps from the people that own a similar cpu. thank you in advance!
it's better than any AMD CPU clock for clock Smile

however it is only dual core. So I wonder if it can really beat the athlon ii x3 @2.7. The mtvu hack seems to give it more than 10 fps advantage over my e4600 core 2 duo overclocked @3 ghz.
It's a pretty rough question. Your best bet would be running a benchmark in the same game and location with your old and your new PC (with MTVU hack on). On C2D FPS and clockrate are 1-1 so if you find how much of an FPS increase, a 100 Mhz increase gives you, you could calculate the FPS you'd get on the E8400
Thank you for the information. That's an interesting fact for the c2d clockspeed increase. There is however some difference between the e4600 and the e8400. Apart from the clock speed, the e8400 has 6mb l2 cache compared to the 2mb of the e4600. Also the the e8400's lithography is 45nm whereas the e4600's lithography is 65nm. i'm curious if the cache and the lithography will help boost the performance. In any case i might be able to trade my e4600 with the e8400, so whatever the difference is, it can definetely be considered a better cpu.
You can check out the cpu benchmark thread, see if that helps you any more: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-CPU-Bench...#pid106082

Although it seems it doesn't include E4600 but if you own FFX-2 you can compare with the other E8400 results.

Lithography does not make a difference, but maybe the E8400 has higher IPC. Cache does make a small difference on PCSX2 but not much.
no Cache doesn't affect performance in PCSX2 much and lithography never increase performance in anything Tongue
Thanks for pointing me to that thread bositman. Thanks to the rest for the info as well!
we have forget a minor thing ATHLON II support SSE2 E4600 support SSSE3 E8400 support SSE4

true that! Another + for the e8400 it seems.
