A lot is going on behind the scenes these days so without further ado here's our news:

PCSX2 has a brand new GUI in development! We will be using wxWidgets for cross-platform compatibility and speedier dev cycles. However it won't be ready for beta for some time. For further info read the blog titled Measuring the Benefits of wxWidgets

A Final beta has been released using the current PCSX2 GUI. It has tons of improvements over the old one, mainly on microVU which is now almost complete. Get it from our downloads section.

First time we release a Linux beta, courtesy of Arcum42, found in the above link as well.

Blog posts now allow user comments in our forum! Discussions surrounding the development part of PCSX2 are going strong in the new forum

Major work on the site even if you can't see it. New Guide page, updated About, updated Contact, all pages XHTML valid, Compatibility list filter/go button fixed and cross-browser compatibility.

New, extremely detailed Compile Wiki, courtesy of n1ckn4m3.

New forum plugins, added recaptcha 2 for spam protection, auto image resizing, users browsing thread and favorite icon. Fixes for the Dark theme, which should now look perfect in all browsers

As development of the new GUI is currently under way, the trunk of our SVN will have a very alpha PCSX2 which you should only use for testing or just out of curiosity. For a bleeding edge usable PCSX2 for the time being use the last released beta.

That's all for now

The pcsx2 logo design competition ended a while ago, and we had a lot of great submissions (check them out here).

After weeks of voting, we were finally able to narrow down the winners:

New Logo by Nanxo:

New About Box Pic submitted by Tayfun and created by ongakujunkie:

New Icon by Jeonkz (modded for transparency by Air):

New favicon for Portal and Forums by NeoCloudstrife:

We decided the 2nd place in the icon competition would be used as the small favicon sites have when you bookmark them,on the portal and forums, since we did not have one

So congratulations to Nanxo, Tayfun, Jeonkz and NeoCloudstrife for their awesome designs! And many thanks to all who entered, there were many great designs and it was hard picking the winners!

Look forward to seeing these new designs in our next official release with our new wxWidgets GUI!

PCSX2 Logo Design Contest!

As many people that actively check our SVN know, we are in the process of a completely new cross-platform GUI for PCSX2.

But it would be quite dull to have a new GUI without a new logo, so we decided a fun thing to do would be to have a logo designing contest where people can show us their skills, and make the next official logo for PCSX2!

The contest rules are simple:
- Due by June 5th, 2009, but users can submit entries early in the PCSX2 Logo Design Entries thread.
- The contest is free for anyone to enter, including people affiliated with the project.
- You may enter as many entries as you like (though only one entry will be chosen.)
- Winner will get their logo in our next release, and will be credited for their logo in our "about dialog."
- Winner will be decided by PCSX2 team (in the event that the PCSX2 team likes our current logo better than the entries, we will have no winner)

Logo restrictions:
- Logo must contain the word 'PCSX2' (font/format/color is up to the designer)
- Logo should be of reasonable size (our current logo is 380x180px, so size should be roughly similar)
- Logo entry can be a modification of our current logo.
- Logo should be submitted as a .png file.
- You may submit an optional 64x64px Icon with your logo to be used as PCSX2's new icon (also should be a .png file).
- All entries will be released under a Creative Commons license.
- No copyrighted images may be used in the entries.

Tip for Icons:
* Icons should be 64x64, but must look good at 32x32 and 16x16. Explained:

Typically users will see 32x32 or 16x16 versions of icons (these are shown in start menu, quick launch, etc). So for a 64x64 icon to be usable it must scale well to 32x32 or 16x16. Alternatively you can prepare an entire icon package, with special versions of an icon at each size: 64x64, 48x48, 32x32, and 16x16. This way you can ensure icons look as intended at each size.

So good luck! You can post your application in this thread HERE

On other news, the PCSX2 guide has been fully updated for 0.9.6. So now it's the best time if someone wants to translate it to another language. You can submit your application in this thread HERE if the spot for that language is still open

PCSX2 0.9.6 released!!

After nearly 16 months, here comes a new Pcsx2 version. Pcsx2 0.9.6

These months were somewhat problematic for pcsx2, due to an initial slowdown of the development process. Then, last fall, the Playground branch was created, and development picked up again. Finally, with the merge of Pcsx2 and Pcsx2 playground, the emulator's development returned once again as it was before, and now we can give you a release which should (we hope!) leave you happy.

We would like to thank everyone that was still waiting for a release, and coming to our forums. We would also like to thank everyone to encouraged and otherwise supported us. This release is especially for you.

Important note: you NEED to update DirectX or you won't be able to use the emulator! You can do it with either of the links below:
THIS --- DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
or THIS --- DirectX End-User Runtimes (March 2009)

What's new in 0.9.6?

- Huge rewrite, mainly from the new members of the Playground branch! Too many speedups, optimizations and other fixes to write here! Many famous games will now work.
- Dropped VM build replaced by the all new Vtlb, meaning no more 'Cannot allocate memory' errors at start up, more accurate emulation, slightly lower speeds but with many optimizations to come
- Full memcard support, working in all games
- Improved Frameskip/VU-skip
- Special Game Fixes Section
- Advanced Options Section for custom tweaking VU/FPU behavior.
- Rewritten Multithreaded GS (MTGS) mode, with as much as 15% speedup for HT machines (only 3-5% for Dual Core), and fixes many instabilities.
- Improved VU/FPU Flags and Clamping support (helps fix odd behaviors and SPS in some games)
- Improved EE/IOP synchronization (fixes many freeze-ups and vmhacks).
- Improved CDVD support.

The older versions will NOT be supported in our forums,so 0.9.4,0.9.5 and playground are not supported anymore

This means that:

1)The PCSX2 - Playground project will be renamed and will from now on be the official PCSX2 project

2)The whole PCSX2 - Playground team will be added to the existing official PCSX2 team

3)The next PCSX2 release will replace the 0.9.4 version and the 0.9.5 beta which we provide will be replaced by new betas after the new release. This means that the current PCSX2-Playground build will not be provided as a download (since it will actually be an older version of the released PCSX2)

4)Our forum structure will be re-organized to match these changes after a new release has been made

After a really long period of silence, we're back with a bang!

Today we are announcing the release of PCSX2 Playground 1.0.0395

Born as a 'playground' test-bed for PCSX2 modifications and code, the Playground project evolved into much more, over a period of about 4 months.
Created by Air (aka Jake Stine), arcum42, cottonvibes, drkIIRaziel, rama and tested by Krakatos, the team would like to thank:

- Thanks to the original PCSX2 development team, to the betatesters and to everyone that helped them. Without their work, PCSX2 would not exist, and neither would the Playground project!
- Thanks to the PCSX2 team once more for graciously hosting our forums.
- Thanks to the PCSX2 team once again for providing hosting space
- Thanks to Gigaherz for the render used in the playground logo
- Thanks to all the people who tried the various Playground revisions over these months, providing us with helpful feedback
- Thanks to everyone else who supported Playground, without you all this would have not been possible!

The PCSX2 team decided to support this project by having the official beta testers also test it and hosting their binary and forum, since they've been doing some great job
You can grab the new binary which includes a plugin pack (and a heavily modified SPU2Ghz for your sound pleasure!) in our download section here
For more information, check the dedicated forum here

Also, today we open our new official forums, hosted right here at pcsx2.net We would like to thank Bobbi and the NGemu network for hosting our forums for so long!
Our new forum is totally dedicated to PCSX2 and has sections for the official release, the public beta, plugins and the playground build

Sorry about the long silence folks. I know most of you must be wondering what's going on these days and wondering where has everyone gone. Some of you already know I've been busy with moving from the US to the UK and this has kept me quite busy with sorting out visas and then with the actual move. Of course, once I made it, I was far from being able to put much time aside to be active again. I had a marriage to prepare for!

Well, I'm happy to say that I am now married to a certain lady some of you may know as Raefraction. She is the sister of refraction, and so this now makes me his brother in law. Odd as it may seem, PCSX2 became a gateway to something more than I could have ever imagined. It's led me to my beautiful wife and great new family. I'm not sure if this is a first for emulation, but I'm sure anyone would be hard pressed to find another example quite like this.

All that said, I'm working my way towards getting back into the swing of things. I've still got just a few more quirks to work out, but the bulk of it is done. I'm also planning on egging on my new brother in law to get back into this with me as well. Give us just a bit more time, and I'll see what I can do. Thanks for bearing with us while things have been busy in our every day lives.

For those interested, you can see pictures from the wedding (which include myself, refraction, Raefraction and family) at General Emulation.

Also there is a video I've uploaded to youtube of the ceremony. Keep in mind that due to their 10 minute limits for videos, I've had to separate it into two parts, which you can view in the above post as well. Thanks again, and I'll be back soon.

It hasn't even been 2 weeks yet, and I have managed to get some new stuff together for a new spu2ghz release!

This time the most notable changes are the addition of timestretching and support for winamp DSP plugins.

As a bonus, there's also an option to toggle the speed limiter using the [Numpad -] key (can be changed in the .ini file).

You can download it here.

To use winamp DSP pugins I recommend getting Multiple-DSP Stacker, which will allow you to easily change DSP plugins and configure them. To enable it you will have to edit the .ini file and manually point it to the path of the DSP dll and the module number (normally it's 0, unless it has many choices in a single dll).

Hope you all like it!

I'm (ab)using the pcsx2.net's news system to let everyone know I (finally) got my lazy ass to make some improvements in my sound plugin.

The result is spu2ghz 1.8, which you can find in the official thread in our forums.

I will keep working on the SPDIF decoding, and hopefully someday I will manage to get working AC3/DTS playback.

EDIT: I uploaded the file also to sourceforge.net's file release system for anyone who can't access the forums, or doesn't want to register in them.

Hey everyone, this isn't anything exciting but I just wanted to let you know.
Our download section has finally been brought up to date with all the updated versions of the GS and Pad plugins which are under development.
Also, some outdated and useless files have been removed to prevent confusion.
I've also updated our sourceforge page (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pcsx2/) with the current info (it was last updated about 3 years ago!),added some screenshots and both FAQ - readme docs in the documentation section.

In other (more interesting for you) news, development is going good as you're able to see from the frequent SVN updates, with Refraction making the usual core changes, with a recent one giving a huge speed boost in some games (albeit breaking some, still trying to figure out what to do with that).
Saqib is also working on something behind the scenes, wait and see when it's done

I tried to think of a flashy title for this, but i couldn't, so I thought I'd just blurt it out!

Yes the IPU (video side of PCSX2) has been updated by none other than Saqib! You might be asking what this will bring to the table? Well im sure as many of you know, videos in PCSX2 suffered from Macroblocking (Corrupt squares appearing all over the place) or videos freezing randomly. Well thanks to Saqib for his marvelous work, many games no longer suffer from these symptoms. Here is a quick rundown of some of the games fixed.

Atelier Iris - Grand Phantasm
Ayumi Hamasaki - A Visual Mix
Bully
Graffiti Kingdom
Many Growlanser games
Monster Hunter
Resident Evil 4
Simple Series Videos
Soul Calibur 3
The Simpsons
Many more!

In light of these changes a lot of games have been improved to a playable status or had their stability increased!

The code is in SVN, do NOT ask for help on the forums. If you guys are lucky, i might be nice enough to compile a new beta very soon

Discussion of whats fixed can be found on the Official forums

Im sure most of you have noticed recently the site has been slow, full of SQL errors and lord knows what.

Well we noticed too! So we have now moved on to a nice new dedicated server, which should have less trouble handling the load (and give ngemu.com some breathing space). You might notice a couple of small problems for a few days as we iron things out but most things should be fully functional. Its not cheap (about $160 USD per month) so any help via the donation button at the bottom of the page would be appreciated!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and i hope everything is much better for you all from here on in! A big thank you to Falcon4ever for working so hard to get everything across. You've done a marvelous job.

This is gigaherz here, writing my first ever news post.

After more than 4 years working on it in my spare time, and while it still doesn't work as well as peops spu2 or zerospu2, the plugin has finally come to be acceptable enough for public testing.

I have to note the plugin has many known issues in specific games, like looping, robotized or jumpy audio, but in others it does its job more than fine and in a few it even manages to get better results than its competitors.

For now, you can get binary builds for win32 in here.

On a side note, it's Christmas day already, so to everyone who chooses to celebrate it, me and the rest of the PCSX2 team wish you all a Merry Christmas and I hope you all have been given all what you asked for (or what you deserve, whichever is better), and for those who don't, I still wish you a good day!

It's about time Linux users had a proper pad plugin! ZeroPAD now supports gamepads including analog axes... which some games are impossible to play without! So if you are a Linux user and are dying to play pcsx2 with a gamepad, please update the sourceforge svn or download the zeropad plugin sources below. If you are downloading, just unzip into your previous zeropad folder and 'make install'. For people having problems, post your questions in the forums.

you can grab the source from here

EDIT
For those people having trouble compiling, completely delete the old zeropad directory and re-update. Then run 'sh build.sh all' from the root pcsx2 dir. Or if you want to do it manually, execute the following commands in the zeropad folder:
aclocal
automake -a
autoconf
./configure --prefix=`pwd`/../../../bin/plugins
make clean
make install

Just a quick one, now i'm not suffering so badly from post traumatic release disorder, I thought I better just make a note saying to you guys the release builds were updated yesterday (if you didnt realise there was edit's) due to a bug making the TLB release extremely slow. This has now been fixed.

I have just updated the packs again to include Linuz ISO plugin version 0.7.0, seem's we accidently packed 0.6.0 with the earlier builds! sorry about that!

If you already have the slowness bug fixes (or you only use VM), you can download the Linuz ISO plugin update from our plugin downloads section, else feel free to redownload the packs, preferably from the mirror, as some of you may have noticed due to the volume of downloads we had, the site was grinding to a halt!

Thanks and enjoy 0.9.4

PS: Guide to getting online comming soon (a proper one). As linked in the last post there is a simple guide with the basic steps you need to take in order to get up and running, but i will do a more detailed one later for those who dont quite understand
