Tongue New computer coming
Ok so I'm thinking about getting a new computer from alienware but one thing I want to know first is that would following specs run well on pcsx 1 emulator. I certainly don't want to buy it and then find out it was all for naught.

Here are the specs for the machine

PC Specs:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-965 Extreme 3.2 GHz 8MB Cache

Motherboard: Alienware® Approved Intel® X-58 Motherboard- Socket 1366 Core i7 Ready, Dual Triple Channel DDR3 Memory

Graphics Card : Dual 1,792 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 295

Memory: 12GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 6 x 2048MB

Sound Card: High-Definition 7.1 Performance Audio

It's an ALX® X58. So tell me what kind of frames should I expect and is it any good.

RE: New computer coming
well that pc is more than good enough to run pcsx2, even though pcsx2 only supports 2 cores, what counts is the cpu's speed (so with that speed of a cpu {overclocked if you want to ~4GHz} would give good pcsx2 speed) Smile

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 OC to 3.6GHz, Intel GMA x4500, 1GB DDR2

NinjaMight just work on next guideNinja

If your budget doesnt matter i think that very good specs for your choice. If you want to balance for price and performance, especially to pcsx2 emulation. There are very much choice from intel and AMD. to be attention, in this time pcsx2 emulation for best performance in all of games especcially for 3d games is need CPU speed to 3.8ghz or above, dualcore or quadcore.

Um, I think u shouldn't buy the computer from Alienware. You could save a lot of money if you would built and buy it by yourself. Just a tip. If you don't have to care about money, well then go ahead. I would save my money tough.

Btw. yes. An i7 is a good choice.

I have my specs in my sig,

Pcsx2 runs wonderfully for me. So it should run better for you. Although, I don't know why anyone would want 12 gig of ram. pfft. /end jealousy

um, and why?

I think an i7 > c2d. Yea, a i7 is especcially good for multithreaded aps. But i think the OC potential of an i7 is nice. Not easy tough like a c2d but I think if money is not a matter, than i would say an i7>c2d.

And I think an i7 is faster than a c2d even if it just uses 2 cores.(or one)

That's pretty inaccurate. Core i 7 beats Core 2 Duo in clock to clock performance ( by a bit but it does) so a 3 Ghz i7 > 3Ghz C2D.
If you talk about overclocking ability, Core i 7 also overclock well plus you get way way better multi threading capabilities for other programs or for future PCSX2 version with more than 2 cores support ( or already GSdx software rendering)

RE: New computer coming
I do hope you play other games and have other use for the computer. Otherwise cheaper buy a PS2 (being cheeky here Tongue). Then again, if you have the money to buy a machine like that, it won't matter. What you will also need to order is a USB gamepad too.

PS: You can still ask them the throught in a 2nd hand PS2 (being cheeky again Laugh)
PPS: Nice machine mate.

CPU: Intel E4500 2.2GHz, 3G Ram, 8600GT.

RE: New computer coming
Correction: You NEED to own a PS2 to use PCSX2 legally,so that's not an option I'm afraid...
