1st question: Unless you have a really slow GPU, it won't matter. CPU is much more important.

2nd question: I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean using PCSX2 to install freemcboot somehow?

Then no, there really isn't any way to install FMCB using PCSX2. I mean you could install it and maybe run it in PCXS2, but that would be pretty useless. I'm assuming you want it on your real PS2, right?

If you have a cheat disc like Ar max or whatever, then you could use the PS2 independence exploit to install FMCB. That's how I softmodded my PS2.

There is another way to softmod a ps2 with 007 Agent Under Fire.

but it seems like it should work. installing it to the thumb drive then copying to the memory card. Ill give it a try and post if I have any results

There's lots of ways. There is a way that you can do if you have a game disc that has multiple elf files on it. You replace one elf file with Ulaunchelf, using Apache tool. You boot the legit disc, then you swap it for the backup with ULE. Then you trigger the elf to load that you replaced. I have a copy of the network adapter startup disc that I modded in this way in case I ever need to mod more PS2s.

Okay, I see what you are saying now. I don't think it will work, but it can't hurt to try.

That's how you do it with 007. I used that method for my ps2 and my friends.

Oh right, I remember now. Don't you replace the driving elf and then load a driving level?

Yep, that's what you do, though it took me forever because I couldn't find my memory card so I had to play for about 20 minutes before I could even do a hotswap.
