Are you using a sse that your cpu supports?.
By this i mean are you using the right gsdx plugin.

when you say : "I'm sure I did" about Dx Update : are you sure the rev you got is the one from feb 2010 ?

Maybe Vista needs to update to SP2 to use latest DX11/10 gsdx..
