Analog sticks support without controller?

How do I make the analog sticks work if I do not have a gamepad/controller/joystick/etc? I tried playing some games and it doesn't really matter for e.g. Final Fantasy, but games like Kingdom Hearts are practically unplayable without analog sticks.

How can I make these work without a gamepad? Do I need to buy a controller for my PC or can I do without?

You can use Lilypad and configure the axis to buttons
