Assign and calibrate controller?
#1
Hello,

have installed PCSX2_qt on my laptop and plugged a controller with an adapter in.

Then I tried to calibrate it on Windows and assign bindings.

But while the Dualshock 2 is found it wouldn't react neither on the laptop nor on PCSX2.

How can I accomplish it?

Would be great if you could help out.

Depending on what your adapter is it could be too old. If your controller doesn't show up in the windows game controllers UI then you're out of luck. if it does... it's possible that something like steam is stealing its input and you need to make sure you exit out of steam to be able to use your controller in pcsx2.

I have a real PS2 controller with one of those blue clear plastic usb adapters (that i used back in 98 and XP days), but I've discovered few years back that the adapter simply doesn't work in windows 10. The drivers are simply not there.

Yes. I'm using one of those blue triangular clear plastic usb adapters. Must have bought it pre 2020.

Windows does find controller in the devices and printer section but when I go to settings and preferences to calibrate there is no reaction.

On PCSX2 Controller Settings there is "Dualshock 2" in Control Port 1 but also no reaction when I'm pressing buttons and moving joysticks.

So for what it's worth, mine is probably from 2005 or so. I've not been able to fix it for myself on win10 but i had a USB controller i could use instead of the adapter+DS2. So i didn't try too hard.

One thing that you could try is to connect to usb2 port (via some sort of usb extender adapter, very old usb hub or perhaps you have specifically dedicated usb2 on your motherboard). I've had cases where usb3 ports wouldn't recognize very old devices or the devices would behave weirdly.

Thanks for helping. I just amazoned a new DS2 adapter as it was the cheapest option right now Wink (don't have a USB extender adapter). If it doesn't work I will get me an USB controller.

Strong personal recommendation to consider wireless modern Xbox controller for long term use Smile

Not only it maps decently well for ps2 games, a lot of modern games also support xbox controllers in their hint, mapping and control schemes.

Controller's a controller as far as windows is concerned. You map any controller buttons to the buttons in the UI of pcsx2 yourself... It doesn't matter if its xbox or dualshock, folks even play with Wii controllers or using the dance dance revolution mats or rockband guitars.. Button press event is a button press event.

Wait... you DID do the controller mapping, right? Example of my automatic mapping with my old logi usb controller:

Okay. I have just began the mapping before noticing the controller wouldn't work. Thanks for your example. Gonna keep that in mind.
I installed Xemu as well. It always crashes and I just think that my laptop might not have enough performance.

Okay. Trying again. Connecting with a new adapter. When loading the game, in this case "Battlestar Galactica" from 2003, the PS2 intro appears but pressing X-button (or any other) wouldn't get me further. I'm not sure if I got everything right. Maybe you can take a look?
