IF ATI then i think i should by ATI rdaeon HD 5770.......what do u say guyzzzzz......any reply.....

Raw hardware, I think ATI is better and that Radeon HD5770 will probably run rings around the GTS 250. However, OpenGL implementation has traditionally been one of ATI's shortcomings. Not sure if that has changed in recent years but since I use ePSXe (Pete's OpenGL2) a lot, I tend to prefer NVIDIA for better OpenGL support.

Since PCSX2 uses DirectX, though, I don't think ATI vs NVIDIA would matter much to you. In which case, if you can get the HD5770 for the same price as a GTS 250/GTX 260, then go with the HD5770. Granted, the HD5770 is more than you'll need and you can go with a lower card.

It's not a problem with XP. You need a 64 bit system. If you get either XP 64bit/Vista 64bit/Win 7 64bit they will all be able to allocate your whole 4 GB RAM (or more)

amm..Bositman i think u r wrong this time...in my father's laptop..it is windows 7 32bit and with a ram of 4 gb....it works in it....

Bositman knows whats up. Vista and 7 32bit will report 4 Gigs yet they can only allocate about 3.5 Gigs. To let your OS take advantage of 4 Gigs + you MUST have a 64 bit OS. If you have a lappy with 4G of ram and a M9600 (example) then the "extra RAM may be used for GPU cache and so on... It is not waisted but not used by the 32 bit OS. In my personal exp. the 9800gt is king for PCSX2. My 4870 was an extremely good card for PC gaming but did NOT support PCSX2 as good as the nvidia part. With the 9800gt everything just worked.

For $135 I'd try to find an used ATI 4890. It won't be easy but give it a shot. Avoid the cheap XFX ones because they have crippled voltreg's and it starts to throttle as soon as it reaches full load temps. It's quite faster than a 5770, wich is dx11 but it'll be too slow for full-blown dx11 titles when they star to hit the market.

If you don't game at all apart from pcsx2 get a cheap 9600gt and save for a faster CPU, i.e C2D E8xxx. and clock the hell out of it. Even the crappiest E0 Wolfie-6M can go past 4ghz easily.

About 32bit/64bit and adressing 4gb of memory: it' doesn't matter what OS you're running you'll need a 64bit OS to adress more than 4gb of total system memory, wich is system ram+videocard ram.

PS: yes, 32bit OS'es can adress more than 4gb of total memory but it's way beyond the scope of this thread.

thanx man..................but 9600GT can handle heavy games...................like crysis at max settings etc....

If you play @ 640x480 and enjoy playing at teens frames per second then maybe... and that's a pretty big IF.

Srsly, though, a 9600gt is a pretty slow card by today's standards. Heck, even when it launched it wasn't nothing more than a good mid-end card.

After taking my time to read this entire thread...my 2 cents.

Someone mentioned 4890 vs 5770. The last time I looked (granted this was the changing of the guards per se) 4890's were going up in price while 5770 were coming down (but still are both higher than what the OP said he was willing to spend) An addendum to that, the 5770 is a great card if the OP wants to buy it, it is slightly slower than the 4890 however

Bositman is right. Always. Enough said. (as a clarification vista and 7 will lie to you and "say" you have the full 4 gbs of ram that is installed, it just can't utilize it due to the 32bit architecture.

ATI vs Nvidia makes no difference with pcsx2. So either company's card in the price range you want to spend will work.
9600 GT, 4870, 5770, GT 250. take your pick with your wallet I suppose, save for CPU upgrade
