BIOS dump USB from ISO image
#1
Just thought I would let people know that you can do a BIOS dump of a PS2 from a USB stick from the CD ISO image. I could not get my PS2 to read CDs or DVDs in ulaunchelf. This is how I did it, and may work for somebody else as it took me a while to get it to work properly. Btw I used an apple ipod shuffle as the usb stick for dumping the BIOS.

1st: Install freemcboot onto a memory card so that you have access to ulaunchelf (or find a method of running ulaunchelf via homebrew on the PS2).

2nd: Download and open the iso image. You can open the ISO using built in disk utility on mac os x or mount it via a program such as daemon tools on windows. Find the file biosdump v2.0.elf or the file with the similar filename and copy this to the USB memory stick (in my case the ipod shuffle).

3rd: plug in the USB memory stick into your PS2 and run ulaunchelf. Copy the biosdumpv2.0.elf file to the PS2 memory card. DO NOT RUN THE PROGRAM FROM THE USB STICK AT THIS POINT (i found this didnt work for me).

4th: Turn off the the PS2 and unplug the USB memory stick.

5th: Reload ulaunchelf and run the biosdumperv2.0.elf on the PS2 memory card. The program should run and prompt "Waiting for USB to be ready..."

6th: Plug in the USB stick and the BIOS should dump to the USB stick, prompting saying it is "DONE" when it is finished (I ran the PS2 for an extra 2 mins before turning it off to ensure it was done.)

Your PS2 BIOS should now be on the USB memory stick Smile

Hope this helps someone else.

Just as info...if you read the first step and do a little thinking you'll find out that you don't need to do all this installing fmcb and running ulaunchelf and so on(on the newest PS2 models you can't install FMCB)

The FMCB installer,uLaunchELF and the bios dumper are all PS2 programs and if you have a way to install FMCB,you definitely have a way to start either of those programs as first and do the bios dumping

I just loaded my memory card with freemcboot using the action replay max ps1 exploit and it worked perfectly for me. It was very easy to do as well following the guides on the freemcboot website. I live in the UK and i just had to buy the action replay max software (£10) and that was it. I never really use ebay so cannot comment on it Sad

Very true. I had a tinker with the PS2 and free mcboot because it would just sitting in a cupboard. When doing the action replay ps1 exploit ulaunchelf runs and this installs free mcboot. You could skip the free mcboot install and copy the bios dump v2.0.elf straight to the memory card at this point, turn off the PS2, unplug the USB and turn on the PS2 again. Run the program on the memory card and plug in the USB stick when prompted to obtain the BIOS.
