[Bakugan Battle Brawlers] L3 (zoom in on throw screen) not working

I've been playing bakugan battle brawlers for the ps2 recently and the l3 stick does not send input (or the game does not receive input) when I press it on my controller. Going to lilypad and rebinding the control will send it once instantly after I exit the config, but I cannot send it with any hardware inputs. I am unsure if this is a problem with pcsx2 or lilypad or bakugan's integration with the emulator. L3 seems to be the only input with this problem (although r3 is not configured in this game). Help would be very appreciated.
