Best Intel CPU for PCSX2
#1
Hello

Guys i have just received 400$ at the end of 2008. Thus i'm going to buy a "best performance/price" sure is performance first price is second. Any ideas? Looking for your reply soon. Don't state Intel I7, it is insane.

Maybe something like a C2 E8400 (3.0ghz, SSE4). Very popular, fast and highly overclockable. I hear a lot of people are able to bump this one up to 4ghz on air.
PCSX2 SVN-563 VTLB // C2E QX6850 @ 3.38ghz, Radeon HD 4850 512mb, 8gb DDR2-1000, Velociraptor 10000rpm 300gb, Vista Business x86-64, XB360 Wired Controller

And that's only 165$ on Newegg:

Even if you could manage to get it to 3.8, it'd be pretty damn good.

the new E8400 or E8600 are the best processors for pcsx2 because they overclock so well and pcsx2 can't use more than 2 cores. i have a e8400 with an asus p5q pro motherboard. all i had to do was to raise the northbridge voltage to 1.14v (from 1.10) and the cpu vcore to 1.23125v (from 1.2125), enable load line calibration and now i can run this thing with 4ghz. with more voltage i will get more, but 4ghz is enough for me and i need to have an eye on the electricity bill Smile
be sure to buy one with the new e0 stepping.

Value wise, E8400 if you have PCSX2 mainly in mind.

Right, E8400 in E0 step. Running it at 4.3ghz and it plays everything i throw at it Smile

I got 4.4 Ghz E0 E8400 and it is very nice. In 99% of all cases it is enough but certain games render certain scenes with CPU then it can get ugly. I experienced 3 scenes in FFXII where my CPU was even too slow in native internal resolution Sad.
