Ahh yeah though that can cause a speedup on some cards that will cause a slowdown on others.

its a circumstancial setting that should not be applied for everything.
Games that load the memory to a high degree (capacity, not bandwidth) benefit from it, such as Xenosaga 2 and 3
It lowers the amount of MB's used at the expense of higher shader utilisation. FFX actually has alot of small textures that don't really add to memory usage, but when you enable the 8bit shader it adds a hell of a lot more to the gpu load.

It's not quite just that... it just really depends on the game.
I know games that are bottleneck by the EE thread and use low Vram and need low memory bandwidth and benefit from 8-bit textures anyway...
