Big Grandia 3 speed regression in SVN 831
#11
Okay, I'll check the settings once more....if I were to get a Core 2 Duo, at the same or close to the the Quad Core's clockspeed (2.40GHz Core 2 Duo vs 2.40GHz Core 2 Quad) would that make any difference in speed at all, if for some reason I can't get this resolved?

Edit 10:31AM (MST) - I used both 791 and 731 and started by deleting the .ini files, enabled the speed hacks one-by-one and while
I did see increase of FPS each time, it still seems too slow for some odd reason. Hmmm...battles are now nearly 60FPS but dungeons
still suffer more than normal. Heck, battles aren't even really "full-speed" (since I'm using a hack, the frames are skipped). Sure, I'd
like to not have to use hacks, but I can't unless I get a relatively fast dual-core CPU, and which out of all affordable core 2 duos I
should get (that'll help alot) I've no clue.

No, PCSX2 basically sees your CPU as a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo.

To gain performance, you'd be looking at getting an E8400 Core 2 Duo, which easily OC's to way beyond 3GHz.

EDIT: I just thought, have you rebooted at all? I don't know the details about how PCSX2 works, but perhaps something in cache is interfering with its operation?

No, I haven't rebooted it so far, but as far as core 2 duos go, should I go for the 8400 (it's already clocked at 3.0GHz)? I don't like the idea of overclocking since it risks frying the CPU and will void the warranty. And right now, I don't want to pay for two CPUs. When it comes to comparing Quad Core at 2.40GHz vs Dual Core at 3.00GHz how much of a performance increase are we talking about?

Overclocking is quite safe, so long as you have sufficient cooling. Tongue2 Most motherboards won't even attempt booting a computer if the overclock would result in damaging your CPU.

Even so, would 3.0GHz (non-OCed) be better for PCSX2?

Can't give you hard numbers, but PCSX2 loves clock frequency, so an extra 600MHz should provide a good performance boost.

My dinky little 2.26GHz processor had trouble keeping up even with speedhacks, when I OC'd it to 2.64GHz I finally got some games to 60fps with speedhacks.

Good, because the lack of speed that once was is starting to get on my nerves. Yes, it would make sense that a mobo won't even power on if the CPU gets too hot (thank you thermal sensors)! So since it's safe to assume that an extra 600MHz will make a siginificant difference, that will be good for me. It's still weird though, how this whole problem began. But, I'll do some more research on what I can do in the meantime.

I'm not entirely sure how PCSX2 works, but I know that my OC'd 3.2ghz (2.4ghz default) Q6600 is pretty much always 60fps on every game I've tried so far, without speedhacks enabled.

I would definitely recommend looking into a new cooling system, if you're still using your default cooler, though. Unless you're packing a case with a lot of fans already, it could still damage your system if your PC is on 24/7.

No, I'm using a better than the default cooler for it; but my case has four fans (PSU, back of the chassis, one on the side and a huge one on the front) but with the CPU, that's a total of five. Now, if I where to get the Core 2 Duo 8400, and with a stock fan, would that be enough to not worry or would getting a better cooler be the way to go? (The cooler I have now is attatched but one of the clips is bent). I'm looking at doing anything to speed up, I just don't want to OC. The CPU I'm looking at is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819115037 Any feedback is appreciated.

Sorry guys the issue was related to Lilypad 0.9.11 with SSSPSX PAD 1.7.0 I don't have that slow issue.
