Black Screen after opening in GoW2
#1
Hello,
I'm experiencing a black screen just after the opening in GoW2. To be more precise, it's when Kratos shrinks to the size of a normal human being, right before the action begins. The sound completely disappears too.

I'm using the lastest beta: v0.9.7 r3878
My specs are:
i7-720QM (1.6Ghz but can be OCed to 2.8Ghz at the press of a button)
ATI Radeon HD5870 with 1GB DDR5
6GB DDR3
Windows 7 home 64bits

My Plugins are:
GS:
GSdx 3693 (MSVC 15.00, SSE2) 0.1.16 [gsdx-sse2-r3878]
Inside this plugin i'm on Direct3D11 (hardware) and native.

SPU2:
SPU2-X r3702m 1.4.0 [spu2-x_r3878]
I didn't touch anything there, all is by default.

CDDVD:
cdvdGigaherz (r3429) 0.8.0 [cdvdGigaherz]
I play with the ISO SCUS97481, the DVD5 version where the game size is about 4GB, it's not the DVD9 version which is about 7GB i believe

My Bios is USA v01.60 (07/02/2002), but i also have Europe v01.60 (04/10/2001)

Emulation Settings:
EE/IOP: All if by default
EmotionEngine: Recompiler
IOP: Recompiler
EE/FPU Advanced Recompiler Options: Chop/Zero, Normal
Flush to Zero and Denormals are Zero both checked

VUs: All by default
VU0: MicroVU Recompiler
VU1: MicroVU Recompiler
VU0/VU1 Advanced Recompiler Options: Chop/Zero, Normal
Flush to Zero and Denormals are Zero both checked

GS:
Disable Framelimiter: Unchecked
Base Framerate Adjust: 100%
Slow Motion Adjust: 50%
Turbo Adjust: 200%
NTSC Framerate: 59.94
PAL Framerate: 50

Frame Skipping: disabled
2 Frames to Draw
2 Frames to Skip
Use Synchronized MTGS: Unchecked
Disable all GS output: Unchecked

GS Window:
Aspect ratio: Fit to Window Screen (custom window size: 640x480)
Only Disable window resize border and Hide window on suspend checked

Speedhacks:
Enable: checked
EE Cyclerate: 1
VU Cycle Stealing: 0 (completely to the left)
Other Hacks: Enable INTC Detection and Enable Wait Loop Detection both checked.
microVU Hacks: Nothing checked.

Game Fixes:
Nothing.

Ok, i think i gave you all the infos i could.
Last think i can think about is that the game version i'm using is supposed to work as it is the same than the one you have in green in the compatibily section.
Other than that, the opening of the game runs super smoothly with a constant 60FPS.
Also, i don't get anything like that with GoW1, i mean i can get past the opening and start hacking away at monsters on the boat.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
/Cheers!

Thanks for the reply jesalvein.
I DO have the original game, which includes 2 DVDs. The 1st one is the game. I made an ISO out of it, and the file weights about 4GB. The 2nd DVDs is for extras.

So i heard that there are 2 versions of the game, the version i own with 2 DVDs, and another one with only one DVD which image weights about 7GB.

I really want to make myself clear on this, i DO OWN the game.

EDIT: Also, just to make sure, i'm talking about GoW2, not GoW.
By the way, i don't want to get the usual "u'r a pirate, go buy the game", so i just uploaded 3 images on Image Shack to show you that there are indeed 2 DVDs in my version....

Here is the link to Image Shack: http://img183.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=gow2t.jpg

2 DVDs ?
I thought that game was released only on a DVD9.
Anyways, I guess both don't have the same CRC, and AFAIK, only the DVD9 version works with pcsx2

jesalvein: It's a special edition, with the game on one disc and extras on the other. The game disc should still be a DVD9 though.
OK then your ISO image is wrong. Use imgburn to make it, it should be around 8 GB since the disc is dual layer dvd-9 (i presume your dvd drive can read this type of dvd disc)

Fantastic!
It works, in fact i didn't have the correct image. The new one i got this time is about 8GB.
By the way, if i don't enable the Speed Hacks, the game is extremely slow.

I can reach 60 FPS butter smooth if i set the Speed Hacks like this:
EE Cyclerate: 3
VU Cycle Stealing: 3
Enable INTC Spin Detection and Enable Wait Loop Detection checked.

The problem i have though is that Kratos (and only Kratos) is clipping continuously.
Is there anything i can do to fix this?

Yeah, lower the VU cycle stealing.

Even when i have VU Cycle stealing on 0, i still experience some clipping (far less though) if i have EE Cyclerate on 3.
Is there another way to get a constant 50+FPS?

With my config, the game shouldn't be that slow:
i7-720QM (1.6Ghz but can be OCed to 2.8Ghz at the press of a button)
ATI Radeon HD5870 with 1GB DDR5
6GB DDR3
Windows 7 home 64bits

Is there a game fix (i don't really know what game fixes can usually do) for this clipping issue?
I tried different combinaisons in Speed Hack, but if i don't have both EE Cyclerate and VU Cycle Stealing maxed out, the game loses about 30FPS and becomes hardly playable.
If i tried a different version of PCSX2, would there be any improvement? Some other people on these forums are obviously playing GoW2 at full speed, so there must be something i can do, no?
