even with all of them enabled? and did you try it in software or hardware mode?

Thanks for the name change! It's being run in hardware mode(I don't know why it wasn't in the screenshot, I don't remember setting it to software), but with the 8bit textures unticked and all speed hacks running, it still only has an average of around 20-30 FPS. Any other ideas?

then it's probably the speed you'll get with this game. "generally good gaming computers" are not necessarily good pcsx2 computers, especially when it comes to such demanding games like mgs3 or sotc.

But I've seen videos of people playing MGS3 and Shadow of the Colossus on Youtube without such lag, and their PCs had older hardware than mine. Could it be a setting I can change? A hack/patch I can download?

youtube is the most unreliable source for infos about pcsx2 on the planet gameplay videos are usually sped up to 60 fps, so don't trust any fps values there.

could you post screenshots of your complete pcsx2 settings (speed hacks, cpu, advanced, gsdx)?

config seems to be fine, guess you'll have to live with the fact that mgs3 and sotc won't run properly on your system

I'll probably just commit suicide knowing that I cannot delve farther into the MGS experience past MGS2...

Then again I can probably break into my friends house and steal his PS2 after getting MGS3: Substance from the bargain bin at Best Buy.

sorry, but you're supposed to own a ps2 and use the bios from it to run pcsx2. and you are only allowed to run your own game discs or isos from them with it. end of support.
