Built new computer for PCSX2 - Need Help
#1
I want to play a few PS2 games at 720p or higher.

FFXII
MGS3
Shadows of the Collosus

After watching some videos of people playing these games at high resolutions I decided to build a computer just for this. The specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor (EO revision) Overclocked to 4.0ghz

XFX GS250XZDFL GeForce GTS 250 Core Edition 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)

GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45

Running the newest beta r1888.

Using Direct X9 Hardware mode GSDX9 in FFXII at high res I get a black line and Vann seems to be higher in the air.

In direct x10 hardware mode the line is gone but Vann seems to be lower than he should be.

Here are me settings:

Im running no speed hacks. Mgs3 runs pretty well but still slows down some. And Shadows of the Collosus is unplayable. Even at the lowest resolutions its pretty bad. This is all on a fresh install of Windows and Direct X. Any help would be great.

Overclock your GTS 250 as much as you can stablely and turn down the D3D internal res a bit. GTX 260/HD 4870 or higher would of been a better choice since you want ridiculous resolutions.
-Core i7 920 @ 4.01GHz
-EX58-UD4P
-OCZ 6GB PC3-14400 Platinum
-Sapphire HD 4870 1GB @ 800/1000MHz
-PCP&C Silencer 750W
-RAID 0 2x Seagate 250GB 7200.10RPM
-Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Hmm. From all that I've read it seemed this card was more than enough to handle this. The same for the E8500 running at 4.0ghz. I'm pretty sure Ive seen people running these games higher than this. Is it really that rediculous?

I've seen people use 2000 x 2000 internal res as well, but those are only for games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X, which are easy to run fullspeed even for rigs with lower specs than yours. The games you are trying to play are beasts and put some decent rigs to shame even at native res.

Enable microVU 0 and 1, for all my games it ranges from completely eliminating glitches to a few FPS more. Overclock your GTS 250 if its at stock, it will noticeably help.

I don't see why you all suggest that he overclocks when it's a graphics glitch he's experiencing but not low speed.
Try setting in advanced both clamp modes to Full and Extra+Preserve Sign. Also keep using DX10 hardware mode and make sure you have the latest DirectX updates (august 2009). Also if the issue persists, try setting GSdx to DX10 Software mode and see if it's still there

For the glitch SW mode will probably fix it, everything is perfect for me when I use SW mode, glitch wise that is. Though its going to run very slow as you're only going to have 1 GS thread (other thread being EE) as you have a dual core, SW mode excels with quads and even more so with i7's. I said to OC the gfx card because of the speed issues he stated not counting the D3D internal res hes running with.

Sorry if it's slightly off tangent, but will increasing the internal res put more load on the graphics card or the cpu? (or both?)

The extra load will be on the GPU and maybe a slightly more load on the CPU in extreme resolutions

I tried your settings Bositman. It seems to run pretty well. I need to play further to see how it will hold up. As for MGS3 with my res and native res, it slows down to about 40fps after the bridge in the begining of the game. So I guess Ill have to drop it down. And Shadows of The C looks great but runs at only 30 fps. And when I bump it down it just starts to look really bad and still doesnt run very well.
