Not by itself, it seems. VRAM usage seems to be a lot higher again in OpenGL than it is in Direct3D. Direct3D reaches about 1000MB (very close to making my PC hang) and hovers around that point, but OpenGL instantly hits the 1024MB mark and my PC hangs. I find that to be very strange, but Direct3D solved my problem, nonetheless.
