Using CDVDGigaHerz 0.8.0 (r4488) I'm getting this error (thread subject), trying to play my Metal Gear Solid 3 disc
using PCSX2 1.0.0 r5350
trying metal gear solid 2; got the same error, different sector.
I'd prefer to not have to dump my disc to an iso. Any solutions?
thanks for your time.

Iso is the most recommended way, especially via imgburn, as it works best that way.

Clean your disc ?
Honestly, as datank said, making an iso out of your dvd is your best bet
