Can my Laptop run pcsx2?
#1
I Just downloaded pcsx2 1.6.0 and I can't seem to get the games to run right. The first game I tried is dark alliance baldur's gate, the cut scenes and loading screen is fine but the game play is 30-40% speed. The next game I tried is bully, the game runs fine but when I go the court yard the screen turns blue. I can still move around and the game is still running, inside the school and dorm the screen is fine.

My laptop is a asus zenbook ux430u which I got in 2017

Processcor intel ® core ™ i5-7200u CPU 2.50 GHZ 2.71 GHZ

RAM 8.00GB 7.89 usable

system type 64-bit operating system x64 based processor

GPU Intel HD Graphics 620

Just so you know : you will have a hard time without having a proper gpu

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

To be honest your processor sucks to run at full speed.
You may want more cores to run at top speed (minimum 4 cores) and more clock speed (minimun 3 GHz).

Also Laptop sucks, they can't be customized like Gaming PCs though. There is nothing much you can do to upgrade other than installing more RAM.

Thanks everyone for your replies. From my research GPU is weak but most sources did say it should run simple games just fine. I am in the process of upgrading my laptop as its 4 years old but I need something small and thin I can travel with because I use it for work. Gaming laptops are big bulky and I also have a ps5 so I don't need something too powerful. I Just need it to play emulators and old games. I was going to use this one for just games and get a MacBook air for work unless there is something I can get for $1500 Canadian dollars that's light and slim and can run old games and emulators.

You still have the choice of old games for your laptop like snes, sega genesis and playstation.

emulating isn't "simple".
you could run old pc games fairly, but emulating games like BGDA is resource hungry.

And it's highly recommended not to play on batteries when using pcsx2 (FYI)

I'm not PCSX2 expert, but I can tell you that I couldn't run Shadow Hearts at full speed with an Nvidia GTX 1060.

2 things I advise:

1) I got an immediate 20% speed boost by using the nightly version (1.7.0-dev) instead of 1.6.0 when I was playing Shadow Hearts. Start by doing this to see if it makes your game playable.

2) I remember playing FF12 at full speed on my older, crappier PC 8 years ago (though I still had a dedicated GPU unlike you). So I think the emulator got more complicated with time, emulates more accurately, which means higher system requirements. That's fine for developers, but maybe not so fine for low-end users. So try to use older versions from like 2015, 2012, etc, basically versions from a time where your current PC would have been considered great, to see how well they run Baldur's Gate.
