Ive heard these are both pretty intensive I am mostly worried about my cpu here are my specs

cpu: Intel Core i7 3630QM(2.40GHz)
gpu: Nvidia GeForce gtx 670m 3gb
ram: 16gb ddr3
CPU: Core i7 3610QM 2.30GHz (Turbo up to 3.10GHz)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670m 3gb
RAM: 16gb ddr3

2.4 Ghz won't be enough to get full speed, but it may be near playable.
Depending on how much you can stand playing in slow motion.
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

Turbo boost might help abit I don't even wanna try overclocking a laptop lol I just got it but supposedly it can turbo boost up to 3.2 so im gonna put it at probably 2.8-3 just a guess... For reference I can play star ocean 3 at 4x native full fps no drops except for the start of battles it dips down to 55 fps then jumps right back up
CPU: Core i7 3610QM 2.30GHz (Turbo up to 3.10GHz)

well, give it a try and report back, then.
but i think those games are more demanding than star ocean 3

This is just another thing I thought of but how much cpu does hardware mode use?

Umm it's a silly question hence a silly answer - as much as the game needs. Tongue

If you just need to know the difference between hardware and software then well in hardware mode most of the(but never all;p) graphic work is done over GPU, hence the GS% which shows only CPU portion of GS work is usually pretty light, but if you check your GPU usage with external programs(as pcsx2 has no way of actually showing it) it'll be doing lots of work especially with higher upscale and/or with "allow 8 bit textures hack"(this hack basically makes the games using lots of such textures lighter over memory bandwidth which on many gpu's is often more common limitation than core speed, hence very usefull even if it does make gpu more job;p). In software gpu is used pretty much only to display stuff, hence GS% will be really high as all graphic stuff being done over cpu.

Even in really demanding games such as Dragon's Quest 8, xensaga series, God of War ect ect. I never seen PCSX2 go above 14% CPU usage. It mainly stays around 6-10%. I got an I5 3570k 4.5ghz. I found that PCSX2 is more GPU intensive... As it uses it way more than my CPU does...

pcsx2 is CPU-intensive, not GPU intensive..

furthermore.. if you have trouble with hardware mode use 3 threads in software mode, and it should work fine.

What are you looking at for CPU? The EE% number? In those games, the GS thread (maybe not GoW) is what's being stressed more. GS % is still a CPU core/thread, so if that's hitting high numbers, you're still maxing out an entire core.

PCSX2 is definitely CPU limited. The fastest CPU you can find will run most PS2 games at full speed in software mode. The fastest GPU in the world won't make the games run full speed if your CPU is slow.
