Hey all. I'm pretty new to using Pcsx2 and I had applied cheats for the first time to GTA Vice City and they will not work despite the emulator recognizing them and saying they are active. I checked "enable cheats." What have I done wrong? Got the codes from Gamehacking.org.

Which version is your game? Vice City has three revision releases (Original, Early Double Pack, Later Double Pack/Greatest Hits aka "Haitian-Friendly").
You have to find the codes that matches with your game version.

Maybe it is also due to your PCSX2 version, because from a certain PCSX2 version onwards there is a new patch system and the codes and pnach file need to be specified slightly differently. Are you using a fairly recent PCSX2 version? If so, please have a look at this thread. However, if you are still using a PCSX2 version with the old patch system, it is advisable to update the emulator.

I'm using the newest nightly version (v.1.7.5449)
When I read the thread, I'm not really understanding what to change or what exactly to look for *to* change. I tried looking for Youtube tutorials on the matter and they were either unhelpful or outdated for the version I have. The only video I found that was helpful was "How To Use Cheats in PCSX2 by Gamer Dude" on Youtube. (can't post URL.) This is exactly what I did and this was the only method that was semi-helpful but yet, still doesn't work.

Code:
//Disable Car Damage by Codejunkies
patch=1,EE,2016838C,extended,00000000
Just change it like this:
Code:
[Cheat\Disable Car Damage by Codejunkies]
patch=1,EE,2016838C,extended,00000000
Anyway, can you provide the CRC of the game (just go to the per-game settings to obtain it) as well as the gamehacking link of where did you get the codes?

CRC: 248E6126
Apparently I'm not allowed to post URLs in my posts making this harder than it needs to be unfortunately, but I can post a screenshot.

For your game:
So that you know 100% which version you have, you can right-click on the game in the emulator and select „Properties...”. Then click on „Verify” at the bottom right. It is important that the game is successfully recognized and if this is the case, you will see the version of the game in the description window. If the game is not recognized, there is an error in the iso which means that you have not successfully converted your game from your disc to an iso file.
For the codes:
If the serial and CRC of your game are really SLUS_205.52 and 248E6126, the pnach file must be named „SLUS-20552_248E6126.pnach”. Also note that many codes have an incorrect or a ambiguous description and may serve a different purpose than expected. It can also happen that a person enters one or more codes for the wrong region or version of the game and with Vice City in particular, you have to pay special attention to these facts.
Either you hope that someone has your version of the game with cheat codes, or you try out every code you find.
Unfortunately i cannot help you as i only own a PAL version of the game. Nevertheless, good luck with your search!
The cheats work now! The problem was definitely that I was using the wrong cheats for my version. Coulda swore I had an original version. My bad. Thank you guys so much for helping me out
