Can't walk with d-pad in dragon quest 8
#1
Hey guys this is my first post here. I've been playing around with pcsx2 lately and started a new dq8 playthrough.

I configured the controller settings properly and I'm using a Switch pro controller, everything went smoothly but there is ONE thing that annoys me:

Normally the left analog stick is used to RUN and you CAN walk (usually) by putting less pressure on it. But it doesn't work! The charcater just starts to run a bit slowly but I can't figure out how to make him WALK.

Also the d-pad USUALLY can be used to walk but when I press the buttons I can only run, it's like having two left analog sticks, both have the same funtionality.

Actually I don't rlly need that function but I'm at the royal hunting grounds in the region of argonia and I NEED to walk to be able to sneek up on those lizards.

I tried it running the game on a stable version and nightly but with both I had the same problem. Also I tried it with a differwent controller (xbox 360 for windows) but it didn't work either.

So, has anyone an idea how to solve this problem? I'd really appreciate it!

Edit: thanks to #GreenYoshi I found out what the problem was: i had a 60fps patch enabled wich changed the movement speed so that the walking animation was the running animation. Now I reinstalled pcsx2 without the patch and it works fine. SO problem solved, thanks for your efforts guys.

Well, I did. I hope so xD

Maybe I'm rlly just too dumb to map buttons but I'm pretty sure that's not the case haha
But to be sure here are my input settings:

Is there anything wrong, or some setting that would prevent the dpad and left analog stick to work properly?

Using the D-Pad alone makes you run (or walk in my case) and to change the speed of your character you need to press triangle (or circle if tirangle is already used for menu) at the same time. It's an old method used for ages, FF8 on PS1 for example worked the same.

The analog stick is only run mode. The D-pad is for walking. DS8 controls (and generally Dragon Quest series) has some... deliberately retro features that do not map to what Final Fantasy players are used to.

Thanks for the tip! But unfortunately the button cuases to RUN fatser not to walk Sad  I looked at the DQ8 settings the other user send in a reply and it says that by using the dpad alone you can walk and by pressing triangle at the same time it makes you run. Thats the case here but I cant walk by pressing dpad alone. Maybe I can clarify myself better with some videos I made:

using analog stick (pushing it all the way):

using dpad:

using dpad AND pressing triangle:

Thanks for ur effort but I'm afraid it didn't help Sad

my controlls just dont seem to correspond to the official ps2 DQ8 controlls. It says on the site that by ONLY pressing dpad i walk but when i do it myself i keep running(a bit slower wich is weird but it isnt walking)

Your video seems strangely fluid, and your speed too seems fast, I suspect you're using a 60fps patch that might interfere.
