Can this EMU really make games HD ?

Hello, a friend told me of PCSx2 being able to play your PS2 games in full 1080p@60FPS, is that true ? He also said I would need quite a high spec comp. Here's my specs:

i5 [email protected]
EVGA GTX 760 SC
8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
1TB HDD 7200RPM 64mb cache

You computer is quite good.
Yes it is true
Goto : Config> Video> Plugin Settings and you can set your custom resolution there. But suggest jusf using scaling likd 3x or 4x native.

60 FPS for all games isn't possible, but 1080p definitely is. The games are going to run at the FPS they were designed for, and, as far as I know, most PS2 games ran at 30 FPS. There is one hack for Kingdom Hearts 2 I believe that makes the game run at 60 FPS, but it's sort of an exception.

Yes and no.

Yes for 1080p/i depending on the game, most probably interlaced. Actually it can achieve whatever monitor native resolution provided the computer can cope with it.

No if believing it can make the textures any more detailed than it is originally, but whatever, it looks so much better than the original...

As metalmellow pointed out, since almost all PS2 games are interlaced they run at effective 30FPS, like any interlaced HD TV program does. Yet we are not talking about First Person Shooters here where high FPS is sought for aiming accuracy, FPS is not part of the HD determination, being progressive does.

Besides the reduced quality gain above 3x against the huge stress on the machine, one should be aware than is not possible to achieve greater resolution than the monitor can do, if it happens in the source the resolution will be scaled down at the monitor.

Theoretically the best internal resolution scaling to use should be that of the monitor's native resolution but some games emulation don't behave well with upscaling and might present artifacts and glitches.

Most of those games will work well upscaled except Jak 2/3 I think. Jak requires software mode to fix graphical glitches and in software you can't upscale.

You seem to have a simalar taste in games to meBiggrin

Yes but unfortunately the resolution of textures remains the same limiting the crispness of the upscale feature but at least we can get rid of jaggies.
