Compatibility
#1
Hey,

I am new to the forums, hi everyone, if this was misplaced please let me know, so I can be of better use to everyone.

Here are my system specs.

Hard Drive: x1 500gb x1 250gb
Operating System: Windows 7 X64 (x86) Home Premium edition
Ram: 8gb dual channel 1600mhz
Processor: Intel g860 2.9ghz dual core
Graphics: HD 7000 series (HD 7750)
900mhz clock speed
1250mhz memmory speed

I run dolphin (Game Cube Emulation) at 70-115 frames per second.

Resolution 1920x1080
anti-aliasing x4 MSAA

Granted that the gamecube was a more powerful system I should be able to run the PS2 emulation much better. (Unless the optimization is poorer)

But here is the issue I am experiencing.

At native resolution (PS2 NATIVE) I get 15-20 frames per second on most games. 5-10 on fps games. And 20-25 (slowed sound as well) on a very non-intensive game, [Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection]

Here is the reason I believe it is a plugin/bio/program issue verses my system not being up to par.

1. I run gamecube just fine (see above)
2. I max out BF3 singleplayer, Metro 2033, and countless other demanding games at 29-45 fps at 1920x1080 4-8x MSAA
3. When I run the game at BAREBONES with ALL speed hacks set on (Dangerous) or the one that is furthest on the preset slider. I get the same perfermance on dx11 max resolution max AA max textures max frame buffers.

DX DIAG

(It may say only 4gb ram, I have one stick out from when I was trouble shooting)

Quote:Granted that the gamecube was a more powerful system I should be able to run the PS2 emulation much better. (Unless the optimization is poorer)
wrong. dolphin is able to use your GPU better than pcsx2 does due to similarities between PC GPUs & Gamecube GPUs (pratically same pixel pipeline if I remember well)
A PS2's architecture is far more complex than gamecube's, and therefore really much complicated to emulate on PC architecture.

Quote:Here is the reason I believe it is a plugin/bio/program issue verses my system not being up to par.
1. I run gamecube just fine (see above)
As I said, it's not a relevant comparison
Quote:2. I max out BF3 singleplayer, Metro 2033, and countless other demanding games at 29-45 fps at 1920x1080 4-8x MSAA
comparing native PC games to emulated games is ridiculous. it's like comparing apples and oranges...
Quote:3. When I run the game at BAREBONES with ALL speed hacks set on (Dangerous) or the one that is furthest on the preset slider. I get the same perfermance on dx11 max resolution max AA max textures max frame buffers.
maxing out speedhacks may make things worse & even slowing down your game.

Quote:At native resolution (PS2 NATIVE) I get 15-20 frames per second on most games. 5-10 on fps games.
I guess it's normal. Your bottleneck is your CPU here... You could set 2x or 3x native, you would get approximatively the same results.
Quote: And 20-25 (slowed sound as well) on a very non-intensive game, [Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection]
How do you know it's non-intensive ?

To make it short : your CPU will be the main bottleneck in most games.
you need a CPU clocked around 3.2 ghz to get good results.
Moreover, it's a dual core. Means the MTVU hack (brings many fps improvements in many games) won't be effective in most games.

Note, I said barebones.

I meant with and without hacks.

So yeah, my performance is always the same, no matter the settings of Graphics quality.

My only confusion, is that there are worse processors, on many different posts, running these games, and some I've seen on youtube (not necessarily real) and they run it 30 fps locked or 60 fps locked.

Am I missing something or does the universe just hate me?

(Referring to the worse systems running phenominal comment)

Also if GPU's are not a part of the equation.

Common sense would tell you, how is the cpu (90 percent of the hauling power) bottlenecking the gpu (10% of the hauling power)

and why is the performance the same? You would think that 1920x1080 8x msaa and all settings maxed, would be just a hint more demanding than native 520x522 and no msaa and no framebuffer.

2900mhz/3200 mhz

90% of the power.

Is giving me (15/60)

25% of the performance?

I feel there are a lot of contradictions between, your answer, my findings, and my depictions of your answer. Care to actually look into the information I provided, take some time, and thought.

Maybe just shoot me a plugin that you think may improve my performance? (Im using SVN)

30fps means the game runs @ half speed whereas 60fps is full speed (for NTSC, of course)

GPU is part of the equation, but pcsx2 relies more on raw CPU power
Quote:Common sense would tell you, how is the cpu (90 percent of the hauling power) bottlenecking the gpu (10% of the hauling power)
the CPU doesn't bottleneck the GPU. It bottlenecks emulation process if not powerful enough.

because increasing internal res and using more gfx enhancements will put some more load mostly on your GPU. Since you have quite a good GPU, all those enhancements will be handled quite easily. But your cpu will still struggle, bringing you low fps.

EDIT : which games are you talking about BTW ?

So what your saying, is the fancy stuff, that is all gpu.

The actual sorting of the games performance, is handled by the cpu, in this particular emulator. So I am flat out of luck with this build?

(You still didn't answer my question as to how they (other gamers) were running a solid 60 fps with worse components)

depends on what you call "worse", depends on which games you are talking about, depends on the emu's settings.
just quote your sources, I'll see if I can explain.

Anywhosal, you think if I get like an i3 with hyper threading (2 cores 2 virtual) I'll get acceptable performance. (Thats the best intel cpu I can afford, I am a 16 year old kid, I don't exactly have money rolling in)

depends on the game, on clockspeed, settings, etc...

I guess slowdown is caused by VU recompiler and EE recompiler...mostly slowdown caused by EE load...

Hey, I am 16 Tongue

Anyone else think a driver, or plugin would help me? (gracias to all)

Oh noticed your edit.

Games I want to play.

1rst. If I could get this working, I'd be in heaven. (I miss my ps2 dearly)
Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection

2nd. My favorite NFL game of all time.(Colts all the way)

Madden NFL 07

Then 3rd. What I deemed as demanding (fps)

Call Of Duty 3
