Consolidating .ps2 memory cards into a single folder

So I'm trying to create a master memory card folder and put my existing mcd00x.ps2 saves into it. 

I converted those mcd00x.ps2 files into their own folders, and then I took the serialized folders inside of them and placed them all into the master folder. 

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work that way as none of the games see the master folder as a properly formatted card. Is there a right method to do this? Is it even possible at all?

I might have figured out a way that works. I first started using PCSX2 using 8mb cards, and then used tried a folder for a spell on some new games.

When I put the folders from the converted .ps2 cards into THAT memory folder I was already using for some games, it works.

Just not the brand new one I haven't used for any games yet. So does a fresh folder need to be used for at least 1 game before you can start dropping the serialized folders into them?
