You can get a bit further if you set the VM speed to 25.00. (The original comment was deleted from one of the compatibility reports, but I'm putting it here for reference)

In rare cases, I can get to the first FMV after starting a new game, but never further then that.

It's hard to reproduce but in rare cases the console will print this. The remaining issues are probably DMA related (just my uneducated guess Tongue)

it is some sort of timing issue or it's checking for the state of something and PCSX2 is saying "yeah it's ready!" when it isn't. But what exactly, I have no idea.

Is there any way I can help? I'm actually an amateur programmer although something like emulation is still out of my league.

You can try, but you need to understand how the PS2 works and be willing to sift through gigabytes of logs to see if you can spot the issue. Plus it would help to know how the emulator works currently.

Well, that definitely sounds like months of studying. Perhaps at some point in the future...

If it's any help, the game appears to be running on the same engine as Over the Hedge and they were both made by the same developer.
