It's the legacy (old) VU recompiler. The only reasons to ever use it would be to test compatibility between the two, or to use it if you're on a slower machine as it tends to run 5-10% faster. MicroVU was actually designed to be faster and more accurate, but as accuracy went up, all the speed gained from the new caching system it used kind of disappeared.

There shouldn't be any games left that run in SuperVU and not MicroVU. As noted above, unless this game broke in a recent(ish) version, it should work with MicroVU with MTVU off. If that still doesn't work we might need to play SVN tag (or confirm the OP has a good known version of the game, not sure if the game has any special CRC fixes that may not be triggering correctly)

Sorry, I had to run out. It seems the problem really was MTVU in that if enabled with microVU the game doesn't start at all, not just hangs randomly. Just turning off the speedhack seems to have solved it so far. Thanks Smile
