Crashes in Gran Turismo 4 Japanese version
#1
Hello,
I've been trying to complete the IB-5 License test in Gran Turismo 4 NTSC-J version (ELF name SCPS-17001). I was running with and without cheats to no avail. I'm using most of the settings in their default values. I have also posted an emulog as well. Here the one without cheats enabled:

I did and it works just fine with no problems. It might be a bug as I did have issues running this game on the emulator in the past. I have also tried to redump the disc with Imgburn to check any read errors and I found none. I guess until a future release can address this flaw, I won't be able to play this game on the emulator. I'll make a GSdump later when I have time if it's needed.

I do also have a U.S. PS2 (slim) to play my PS2 games that are locked to NTSC-U region code. Are you suggesting that I could try to play with the game on the emulator with the BIOS of the U.S. PS2? I already dumped its BIOS.

In the wake of the usual rounding/clamping problems, can you verify that:
- Automatic Gamefixes are Enabled
- The EE Clamping mode is set to Normal
- The VU Clamping mode is set to Normal

With these conditions met, my US version completes the test successfully, but it sounds like you are also well aware of the license test clamping issue and this may be a separate issue, specifically with the JP version. That said, I'd still like to at least raise the point.

Though, another interesting point I'd like to raise is that, again on the US version so I can't say how relevant this is to the JP version, I have managed to clear this license test twice now, using the configuration I gave above, and also with:
- Automatic Gamefixes Disabled
- EE Clamping to Full
- VU Clamping to Extra + Preserve Sign

So perhaps this even goes beyond what is currently known? It is TLB miss after all, could be a wide assortment of causes.
Problems? Check out the development builds for the latest updates.

I did the following things:
1-disabled cheats
2-verified clamping mode in both EE and VU
3-tried the U.S. version (that I also have)
4-tweaked the VU clamping mode to Extra+Preserve Sign

As for the results, only #2 works. It's possible that the TLB errors are for something that is missing. It would make sense as not many people have the Japanese version of Gran Turismo 4 so it's harder to test things.
Sad

Edit: I went back and created a GSdump so that it would be useful. Here's the link:
