Dark cloud glitch HELP

[confused little girl]

SO. im pretty new to the whole emulator thing. tho i have tried a nintendo emulator in the past im struggling much more with this one! i just downloaded dark cloud 1, and everything works fine. EXCEPT TEXTBOXES. everytime i walk up to an npc and try to speak to them the screen goes black with a bit of glitching going on.. what can i do to get rid of this problem?? i tried looking up some reviews from the guys who tested the ISO, and none of them had the same problem... i must be retarded
