It is known to cause problems, just because you never experienced them doesn't mean they don't exist.
@Zvahl you never posted what I asked in my reply...

(SYSTEM.CNF) Detected PS2 Disc = cdrom0:\SLUS_213.61;1
(SYSTEM.CNF) Software version = 1.00
(SYSTEM.CNF) Disc region type = NTSC

Is that what you mean?

The code on the game sleeve is SLUS20964.

Hm it's the exact version I have too. I just noticed the game DB applies a setting of EE/FPU round mode to nearest for this game, try setting it to that (or checking 'Automatic game fixes' , same thing)

So I selected Tutorial: No, and then Gold instead of Yellow at the title screen (no idea what that does) and now it works.

Crashes on attempting to save now though, meh, seems this is less Devil May Cry and more Zvahl Will Cry.

Yup, no change. I am guessing the image is just a bad write. I will try another ISO if I can steal it off a friend, if not, ill just play it on the PS2 proper. Shame cause it looks awesome with the GFX ramped up.

Ripped a friends copy, works fine now. All sorted. Not sure if it makes a difference but he has the PAL version.

Make sure you delete that before you give it back.
