try setting clamps to full or extra and see what happens

in Emulator Settings, under the "EE/IOP" and "VU" sections, there is a toggle thingy at the bottom, click it to "Full + Extra" options

Just to be sure... you're loading from a memory card and not a save state right? Any settings you have right at or just after you load a save state will remain whatever they were when you originally made the save.
