Did anybody ever find a fix for The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning's flickering?
#1
Been digging, seen it brought up a few times a few years back but didn't see any resolutions posted. Has anyone managed to fix this, or is it still an unknown cause?

apparently, some patch handled it
but fixing the root cause is still a bit hard, according to lightningterror's posts on github

My info could be wrong Tongue

The flickering is caused by the fixes GSRendererHW.cpp
Without it the menu won't appear at all.
And then there's the issue some regions being shared.

Patch opens up and runs, but spits out an incorrect MD5 sum error at the end. Not sure what that's about.

This patch should fix flickering for HW, and SW mode on any emu version.

Code:
comment=tested - work
//crc 0EE5646B - SLES-54359

patch=1,EE,001849b4,word,3464fff0
patch=1,EE,001849b8,word,3464fffc
//patch=1,EE,00126638,word,70441c88
// last patch not needed now

Code:
comment=untested
//crc the same? - SLUS-21372

patch=1,EE,001849B4,word,3464fff0
patch=1,EE,001849b8,word,3464fffc
//patch=1,EE,00126638,word,70441c88
// last patch not needed now

Edit: Looks like SLUS-21372 have different crc, but this offsets should be correct anyway. Also i want to add that i not tested this patch with latest build where crc fixes was added. But i think this way of fix is cleaner than crc hack for gs, as it fix SW mode also.

Ah yes this is a much better solution. Spyro Eternal Night suffers from the same issue.

If the patches are tested then I can remove the GSdx hacks and add the patches instead.

The patch doesn't appear to work on the PAL version, only US.

If you are testing on PCSX 1.4.0 (and probably on any install-able release) remember to put cheats into C:\Users\Your user name\Documents\PCSX2\cheats Because for some reason emu won't read it from program files/.. directory.

I made positive test on PAL version with:
  • 1.4.0 OGL HW
  • PCSX2 1.5.0-20180506020122 - compiled on May  6 2018 OGL HW/SW
  • PCSX2 1.5.0-20180506020122 - compiled on May  6 2018 DX11 HW/SW
Anyway if you are sure that emulog say that patch is loaded, then i will try to look at this again. Also good to hear that NTSC-U work fine, i don't have ability to test this myself.

Oh, and remember to test without gs crc hack Wink

And can be fixed in the same way because is per game engine issue. So is just matter of find correct offsets. Wink
