Now first off I know NOTHING in regards to programming (I'm a network engineer so while jargon certainly doesn't frighten me, I'll admit my shortcomings in the land of development) but I'm wondering why you can't simply place the spu/sound system on its own thread like with the gpu and, more recently, the savestate system?

Is the difference in THAT particular scenario too small to be worth the effort?

To be honest, 3.6GHz dual core processor is quite enough for most playable games.I voted for No it doesn`t need it.

All of you people must think than not all of the people in the planet have the enough money to buy high clocked cpu or super cooling system for get overclock (included me)

Yeah because quad core CPUs are much cheaper...

You don't need "super cooling" to overclock and Core2/PhenomII/i3 dual core CPUs @ 3.2ghz aren't that much high on price either, 3.6Ghz is more a luxury as 3.2Ghz should be able to do most games without problem, and if you need extra speed well there's always speedhacks then.

LMFAO! No.... Hardware is important but not that important. I have run this emulator on my OLD 939 3500 2.2Ghz, 1G OCZ, 7300gs @35FPS. Then I splurged and bought an E8500 and put in a tp45hp Biostar with 4G of DDR2 @ 996Mhz...... 3.8Ghz OC on the Processor. Solid 60 fps most of the time. Huge cool case and water cooling on the GPU. I currently run my sig rig in an HTPC with a big processor cooler and stock on the GPU and its nearly as fast. Its the programming that really matters as far as I'm concerned, and thanks for that PCSX2 team. You make the impossible happen.

Current generation computers can >already< run many games at full speed with stock configuration.
Let's not forget that in around 2007 it was thought >impossible< to ever run PCSX2 at full speed.

But not everyone knows that even before the slim PS3 is released, Sony has pulled the plug of the PS2 support completely on the last revision of the fat PS3.

But not everyone knows you can only install some versions of Linux, not all of 'em.

And if anyone has the time to compile (and debug) it, Mac too.

Assuming PCSX2 source can be compiled against a PS3 Linux kernel, maybe, but YMMV.

Then again, what's the point of supporting PCSX2 on PS3 when we're trying to play PS2 games in the comfort of our desktops and/or laptops?

PS3 firmware update 3.21: Google it please. It removed installing other operating systems.
(This next part isn't replying to you guys lol)
Also, consoles will never replace PCs, and are not more powerful than them...you're doing it wrong. Buy a better CPU if you are having difficulty.

And back to the person saying dual cores are too expensive. I bought a AMD phenom x2 550 for $102, got a xigamatek dark knight heat sink for $45 dollars. I'm currently at a quad core at 3.4Ghz, only because I don't feel like overclocking more, and temperature is not a problem. I had it at the same thing with the stock cooler, just higher temperatures.

Bottom line: a $100 CPU can get the job done effectively, and is not too expensive for most people
