Doubt about Scaling
#1
Hi,
This is my pc
Windows 7 profesional 64 bits |Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Socket AM3|OZC StealthxStream 600 w | Gigabyte Radeon HD 4770 512MB GDDR5| AMD Phenom II 955 X4 Quad Core 3.0Ghz| Memoria Kingston 6GB DDR3 1333

Yesterday, I used the scaling option, and in my case, if I selected one option above of x3, my pc is very slow, cause I have one question, what graphic tarjet(if only I need this) I need for playing in x6 without my pc goes slow?.

In a game like a soul calibur II or III, for example

Thanks in advantage

Why would you need such high resolution? Do you have a 4k monitor?

A high internal resolution can use lots of VRAM. And it also needs a fast GPU. It depends on the game, but your GPU is not enough powerful for x4 IR in general.
For example, I sometimes have to play at x3 with my ATI 4890, and that's a better GPU than yours.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GAMING X TRIO
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X670E-F Gaming WiFi
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 6000MHz CL30 DDR5
Monitor: Asus PG278QR
OS: Windows 11

But if a would want get set scaling to x6...what requeriments I would need it?What I need to look in a graphic card?

I'm thinking something along the lines of HD7990 on ATIs Tongue

Ok, Now I make myself a idea.
Thanks.

PCSX2 does not use a lot of Vram, that is actually the problem with PS2 games and scaling, since the PS2 had very little Vram, it relied on it's massive memory bandwidth to push the same files constantly into and out of it.

Thanks.

The memory bandwidth is the same for a 7950 as a 7990 and at third of the price... that is the only thing that matters to PCSX2 (at least at that high end of a video card).

That said, even a 7950 (or 7990) would not get 6x in all games all of the time. Simpler games maybe, but you'd still be looking at 4-5x being the usual (not that you'd likely notice a different beyond 4x unless you have a 4k monitor)

(edit)

There are 512-bit cards (1/3rd more memory) that might push you in the 5-6x range http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814121636

And I was (somewhat) wrong on the 7990, there is actually a version of the 7990 with 6GB of VRAM that uses 768-bit memory interface (twice as much as the majority of 7990 and lower models) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814125458

You'd just have to make sure and not cheap out with just "any" 7990... It'd have to be the 6GB at 768-bit bus.

Both of those are the same links Koji and you would get half the VRam since those are both dual card gpus aka 2 cards instead of a single card aka the vram is split between the 2 cards.

Then an HD8990 might be a better option since it's a single GPU with 2 cores Tongue

Fixed the link.

As I said before, Vram isn't what matters to PCSX2... it's the bandwidth (how fast you can put things in, and take things out of the video card's ram). All mid to high end cards are GDDR5, so what matters most at that point is memory bus interface. Double the number, double the memory bandwidth. 128-bit bus will probably get you 2-3x in most games. 256-bit bus will likely get you 3-4x, 384 4-5x, etc.

Why not 256-bit bus getting you 4-6x over the 128's 2-3x? Because resolution doesn't scale linearly, it scales exponentially.

That is, 2x scaling isn't twice as many pixels to process as 1x, it's actually 4x. 3x scaling is actually 9x as much as native. 4 is 16, 5 is 25, 6 is 36. That said, certain things don't scale at all (models/textures are going to take the same bandwidth because they aren't scaled. Textures could be scaled later on if the devs ever decide to do so or allow for hi-res texture replacement mods like N64 and GCN/wii emus currently do) so it's not quite that high, but it does give you an idea of why reaching higher scaling options are difficult even on top of the line hardware.
