Dragon Quest 8 proper settings?
#1
Years ago, I made an attempt at playing this, but the slow downs were to much then.

On my new PC and the latest emulator version, it runs perfectly. No slowdowns and looks fantastic.

So I figured it was time to do it. I checked the wiki and didn't see any updated settings, the last time it was edited was like 2009...so yeah.

I mean, it runs fine and I see no issues - but that doesn't mean there isn't any,s o I figured I'd ask here and see if there was any setting that was required for a smooth playthrough.

Your system is more than enough to play that game. Just turn off SLI.

With the new OpenGL graphic option things run SO much faster than DX 11 does. So just use the OpenGL instead of of DX11 now. They both look exactly the same as well (graphic wise).

Hmm...

So I'm at the Waterfall area, near the start.

The issue I am having, no waterfall...

Latest PCSX2, DX11...I can hear it...but not see it.

It's there in Software.

It shows up in DX9.

But not DX11. Most curious.

Though DX9 appears to have more graphical glitches.

DX9 works where as DX11 is more buggy, I never got DX11 to work but most things appeared for DX9.

Click all the boxes under hardware mode settings then go to configure and click the sprite and half pixle boxes.

If that dose not work I will fire up DQ8 again and check it out and see what works for me.

I just played this yesterday strangely enough but in 1.0. I am using DX11 with stock settings other than the MTVU hack. I did not have an issue with the waterfall. Are you using any non standard settings or a weird resolution?

Wait, that isnt entirely true. I do have one hack enabled. I dont remember the name but its the one that makes the text appear nice and crisp.

No, but what is the nice and crisp text option?

No, no really weird options. But DX9 works, though I see graphics flicker from time to time.

And the waterfall is the first mission you do. It's like 20 minutes into the game.

Taken from a post from Bostiman (back in April of last year)
Known Issues:
Sun lens flare goes through solid objects - use software mode
HP/MP bars bugged - set GSdx HW WildArmsOffset hack to second state or use native resolution or software mode
Artifacts on text - set GSdx HW WildArmsOffset hack to first state or use native resolution or software mode
Flashback sequences all brown - use software mode
Shadows missing - use software mode

Damn, still that many bugs? Ah well, I can do without it.

Also, I thought the flashback secequences were supposed to be Black & White? They are for me.

Hmm, I enabled the WildArms Half-Pixel offset and it fixed text - but broke HP Bars. Don't see any "Second state"

Also, there's no way besides Software to get Shadows / fixed Sunflare, ect...damn.
