Dragon Quest VIII - Cutscene Framedrop
#1
Hey there!

I'm pretty new to this board so I beg for pardon if I missed something.

I played the pcsx2 lately and wanted to play a game I already finished on the console - Dragon Quest VIII.
However, it wasn't quite fun. As the first sequence (where (and I don't want to spoiler here) a creepy guy took the scepter out of the marked ground. A huge wave came and the princess and the king got caught) ended, the whole thing started. Watching the cutscene with over 60 fps, and suddenly, when munchie reaches the green guy who was sleeping, the frames will drop to about 20fps.

My specs are:
nVidia GeForece GTX670
intel i7-3770k 3.5GHz
8GB RAM

And my settings are seen in the screenshots

Both pictures are there, if I missed something pls tell me Smile

Peace, Deceptive~

What are the EE and GS values during slowdown ?

Set renderer to D3D11(hardware mode) and also provide a screenshot of your speed hacks section settings.

Disable EE cycle hack and VU cycle hack for the moment.
Check if MTVU really helps or slows you down.

Try disabling mtvu hack and check whether it offers improvement in performance. Also, how are you playing the game ? ISO (or) DVD ? Providing the emulog could help.

Hey there. Disabled it, still happening. And the rest (before the slowdown) is dropped down to around 40 fps.

I play the game as ISO.

The log is attached now.

ps.: The testlog is quite long as I am trying the whole time something new. The last steps are when you guys told me to turn off EE and Cycle. Hope this is helpful :x

Use Gsdx SSE 4.1, it will be much faster than SSE2. You can select it in GS drop down list on plugin selector menu.

Tried it, still same "error".

Oh yea, and I noticed something, when the framedrops are going to happen, the log says
"GSdx: failed to compile external post-processing shader. "

But thats new, as I can see in the logfiles.

Activated Speedhacks again and it slightly improves, but not that well. between 40 and 27 fps.
