Dragon quest 8 is finally full speed
#1
hello for any 1 having problems in the past with running dragon quest 8 the issues is pretty much fixed in the pcsx2 1.0.

For starters this game is a gpu heavy game and at the same time it worth having a fast enough processor.

In pcsx2 Vu settings set clamping to none and leave rest to default
and set your video cards settings to clamp for some reason it does a better job.

speed hacks only enable new multi processor hack gives massive boost in frames.

in sound use latest plugin. In gsdx settings set your resolution to 1805x1026 game looks prettier and all settings except for native. native serves no purpose for this game even if your video hardware is weak it wont help frames for this game. in video plugin enable hw hacks and set skipdraw to 3 it fixes the graphics issues in the game very important. and set extra rendering threads to 3 mines is set to 4 depends on your processor but also helps with performance.

for your video cards setting disable all antialiasig setting if not the game will be extremely slow.

my system specs
cpu- amd 965 be 3.8ghz
mobo- gigabyte UD4P
ram- A-Data DDR3 4 gigs
video- BFG 9800 gtx+ OC GDDR3 512
Os- windows 7 ultimate 64bit

I hope this helps people having in game problems.

Rendering threads only helps with software mode I believe. Something worth mentioning is my HD5870 handled this game with x2 resolution, so an equivalent card or better will more than suffice (with no speed hacks, as well). And I have the same processor which handled it fine, but I'm sure the MTVU will help even more.

Just wanted to add a little more info to help out Wink

Never noticed this issue and I lost my backup in a RAID crash so I can't test it right now (disc is buried in the garage somewhere).

"Skipdraw = 1" in GSDX for shadows.

I tried a few skipdraws, but not "1".
Works fine. The shadows are a bit vague, though.
