Dumping PS2 BIOS (w/ Codebreaker 7.1+).. Help its not working
#31
You should really use the new dumper. The old one is very inaccurate and incomplete, misses various bios files etc.

Haha! as if... Tongue
I may have or niot, already mentioned this but the  v2 BIOS dumper.. DID NOT WORK..
It just sat there stuck on "Waiting for mass storage to become ready" and didn't do anything at all..

This was the case when using CodeBreaker  method on my original (PS2)(big)(SCPH-39001/N)(NTSC-USA)(v7)(BIOS_v1.60)
as well as the McBoot method on my NEW (PS2)(slim)(SCPH-79001/N)(NTSC-USA)(v16)(BIOS_v2.20)

only the DUMPBIOS-MASS.ELF
ie. (v1.0) worked at all in both cases.. Sad
I didn't try the older v1.1.. YET! lol Wink

DUMPBIOS-MASS.ELF = v1.0 (360 KB (368,644 bytes))
ps2dump_(v1.1).elf    = v1.1 (32.5 KB (33,292 bytes))
ps2dumper_(v2.0).elf = v2.0 (72.9 KB (74,708 bytes))
if you care to look at them... I have attached a RAR archive of all the PS2 BIOS dumping TOOLS I have come across...

Attached Files

Yeah some bugs crept in the v2 tool unfortunately. I don't remember how i got it working because it's been like 8 years Tongue The v1 dumper will only dump the essential bios file for PCSX2 to work but misses various files (which aren't really needed, but sometimes do make a difference)

The team member that maintained and created the dumper tools hasn't been around for ~10 years, so go figure.

ahh.. Sad  Angry  Blink  Glare  Wacko  Sad  Sad  Sad  Sad
do you have thee original src some where?
and a way to compile it?
all I have is MinGW for Windows..
http://www.mingw.org/

ooH! Hohoho, here in this video might just be the answer... Wink

long story short.. the v2 tool CANNOT use the USB flash drive because it is already in use if you load said tool from
the flash drive SO it says to copy it too the Memcard then restart and run it from there Blink

ooh hoho the dumping using v2 from the memcard WORKED..

but the files are a bit crazy...

SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7.cmd
SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[871FB64D].nvm (1.00 KB (1,024 bytes))
SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[2929D411].diff (2.00 MB (2,097,152 bytes))
SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[B8CD1071].rom1 (2.00 MB (2,097,152 bytes))
SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[B46BCD70].rom0 (4.00 MB (4,194,304 bytes)547 bytes (547 bytes))
SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[D8DFCBD3].inf (547 bytes (547 bytes))

There were created by PCSX2 and the BIOS for my SCPH-39001 BIOS:

SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[B46BCD70].mec (4 bytes (4 bytes))
SCPH-39001_USA_Con_0160_20020207_v7_[B46BCD70].nvm (1.00 KB (1,024 bytes))

[.mec] is created by PCSX2/BIOS as usual.. but the original nvm was NOT liked so PCSX2 created another one...
Whats even more messed up compared to the v1 dumps...
These v2 dumped files when loaded in PCSX2 the Console model string in the Version menu from the BIOS main menu
comes up as UNKNOWN.. strange...

Going to re-dump my SCPH-79001 PS2 now using v2 dumping tool..
I like v1 better Tongue Wink

SCPH-79001_USA_Con_0220_20060905_v181_[A061886B].nvm (1.00 KB (1,024 bytes))
SCPH-79001_USA_Con_0220_20060905_v181_[92124379].diff (4.00 MB (4,194,304 bytes))

SCPH-79001_USA_Con_0220_20060905_v181_[33BDFC9C].rom1 (4.00 MB (4,194,304 bytes))

Again created by PCSX2/BIOS
SCPH-79001_USA_Con_0220_20060905_v181_[1B8B0343].mec (4 bytes (4 bytes))
SCPH-79001_USA_Con_0220_20060905_v181_[1B8B0343].nvm (1.00 KB (1,024 bytes))
same with this one the Console is considered UNKNOWN.. Sad >_> Tongue bad dumper tool! Tongue2
whats even stranger is its naming it PS2 console v181 (ie. v18.1) THERE is no v18.1
as v18.0 is SCPH-90001 and you can't dump that version using the McBoot method.. Sad

That sounds familiar somehow...I think the v2 dumper also did not work here but it did when I copy it to the memory card and run it from there.
I used the v1 dumper to dump the bios(which I loaded from the flash drive)and I'm still using that bios from the v1 dumper but I also had a problem with it.

Once the dumping progress started, there was litteraly nothing indicating a dumping progress and I was waiting around 4 minutes for the dumper to finish(at one point I thought that the PS2 freeze)

Good thing that my flash drive had an activity indicator so at least I knew that the dumper was wrighting to the flash drive.

Here is a bit more info i digged up..
Using their UN-renamed FILE NAMES,
the new v2 dumps are saying this
Quote: Bios Found: USA v01.60(07/02/2002) Console
BIOS rom1 module not found, skipping...
BIOS rom2 module not found, skipping...
BIOS erom module not found, skipping...

Bios Found: USA v02.20(05/09/2006) Console
BIOS rom1 module not found, skipping...
BIOS rom2 module not found, skipping...
BIOS erom module not found, skipping...

wheres my original dumps us DUMP-BIOS-MASS.ELF ie v1.0
generate these bits...
Quote: Bios Found: USA v01.60(07/02/2002) Console

Bios Found: USA v02.20(05/09/2006) Console
no other missing BIOS file warnings..
(PC Specs)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus PRIME X570-PRO (BIOS_r4602 [02/23/2023])

It probably happens because of the different CRCs (if thats what those are) in the filenames. Try renaming all of them to the same filename, keeping their extensions ofcourse.
