#1
Need help dumping my PS2's BIOS using
I cam across this guide over at the ngemu forums in the last part of the guide it talks about using Codebreaker v7.1+ to dump the PS2 bios...
the instructions aren't very clear... I was not sure if it was best to ask here or at ngemu.. so I went here in the hopes of getting some help to finally get my PS2's BIOS dumped.

Here's a link the article:
(Emuforums.com-PS2 Emulation-PCSX2 Forum) RF's Guide to Dumping Your PS2 Bios over LAN

I have included as an attachment the BIOS dumper i found here.. and the
pelican.bin file I found on another site ( I'M NOT sure IF this is the REAL "pelican.bin" from www.cmgsccc.com's homebrew section)

I would really apperciate any help you guys have to offer, I have been dieing to dry out PCSX2 for a very long time.
Thank You.

I'd suggest simply using the USB stick/CD method, using our tool http://pcsx2.net/downloads.php?p=tool
We have a copy of that guide here too, with fixed links maybe that will help more:

recently CMX encrypted some apps for usage with CB
CMGSCCC.com - The Official Code Breaker Site - Sony PlayStation®2 Homebrew

Didn't check Naplink, but SMS

Copy USB version of dumpbios.elf and pelican.bin to root dir of USB drive
Boot Codebreaker, it will run pelican.bin automatically
In SMS configure: exit SMS=mass:/dumpbios.elf
Exit SMS
BIOS will be dumped to USB drive

I put what I believed to be the pelican.bin on to my flash drive (which has worked on my v7 PS2 at home, but this slim line version might not be liking it) plus the ps2dumper.elf and the 7za.exe (from file PS2dumperV2_bin.7z

it starts to load the screen is very dark and starts getting lighter very slowly in leeps every once in a while but nothing really happens till I remove the flash drive and codebreaker (v10.1) boots like normal (w/o reset)... probably doesn't like the slim line...

ah right I just remembered reading something a some time ago CB's USB drivers are not compatible w/ the slimline models.. Sad.

btw I grabbed the pelican.bin from the updated link on your Guide thx Smile

slimline you say be careful that some newer slimline models have a newer protection so some older tricks won't work as they worked with the good old big fat PS2's.

it took some time time to figure out but I found the SMS's exit to function but it would not let me target the ps2dumper.elf (There was no "dumpbios.elf") ... when I set it too boot.elf
I got LaunchELF (v4.15) I was able to target the "dumpbios.elf" and launch it at this point... but it hung on waiting for usb mass storage to become ready.

Started from unknown. waiting for usb mass storage to become ready.

thats it.

has anyone been working on updating the....

So... anyone actively developing this biosdumping tool?
I really like it and the part about creating a ".p2b" file great idea...

I must know how do I use command line arguments from the PS2 for this dumping tool?
Quote:Usage
--------
0. Command line params:
-noinf -norom0 -nofrom -norom1 -nodiff -norom2 -nonvm
each param is optional and if present makes the tool to skip the
creation of the corresponding file. default is to create all files
-forceusb
also optional, the tool tries to detect if a 'host' device is
available. If specified, the tool will dump to an USB mass drive
(ie. USB pendrive, USB stick, camera or mobile phone in USB storage mode)

The tool is more or less complete. It worked for me right out of the box, dumped on a USB stick. The p2b idea was dropped eventually

ok... I guess what I was trying to get at was the USB support portion of program.... cus its not recognizing the usb driver I put in. t

It is a 2GB drive though... I tried FAT and FAT32 formats for it.... neither worked. This is a blank spare 2GB PNY-Attache USB flash drive from work

he readme file mentioned the USB support was "experimental".... thats why I didn't use my Primary USB drive a 1GB Corsair Flash Voyager because I have too many files that are not easily replaceable Sad

Try other usb sticks. It's a bit buggy yeah but after you find one that it recognizes it's a 2 minute process.
The tool still dumps the bios in a p2b file but it is not used/recognized by PCSX2, so you have to extract it using 7zip and you get the BIOS files separately as it used to be

That sucks the p2b idea is a really great Idea for keeping the PS2 BIOS folder for PCSX2 really clean and neat ^_;

I wish but I don't have any other flash drives. BIOS dumping will have to wait til I do... ;_; thx for your help Smile
