When I run a game from my dvdrom it always says that i need to insert playstation 2 format disc.

Eh?! whats ur config, specs, have u insert the disc(bad joke )? are u using isos? have u dumped ur bios?? for proper help we need more info u know ^^

its dvd plugin is probably configured wrong

screenshot your configuration

it is advised to make an iso tho
