Omg...I thought that could be the problem too. But I don't have the DVD here with me...*sigh*

Never seen this error before.
Are your drivers/directx/VC runtimes up to date?
Try using the latest stable version (1.0) or newest SVN

you mean the exact same iso file crashes on your laptop, not on your desktop ?
what if you try the original physical DVD on your Laptop ?

Sorry about the rerip-hint it was completely unreasonable...

If it works on your desktop it is probable that this is a software issue...
I would check driver and directx.

Have you tried software-mode (F9)?
Or Maybe using one of the Null-plugins as Null(Null) during this scene (while you still can hear the sound) and by this skipping the video.
