FFX minor slowdown when scene changes
#21
I can confirm that the slowdowns DO NOT happen in software mode.

Also in hardware mode they happen on transition from no 3d to 3d. Like a 2d logo to 3d scene, or a black screen to 3d screen(e.g. fade in)

Maybe your graphics card cant change clockspeeds fast enough and thats why you get slowdown.

The most likely thing now is VU and/or EE code flushes and recompilation that alltogether take longer than what the video thread has buffered.
We've worked on this problem before and I think we couldn't make it better then.

Maybe it's the game itself. It may just need to render lotsa stuff out of a sudden.

I get these same slow downs i think. Though i typically get them after or during battle when a character talks occasionally when talking to people, but not often. So basically when subs pop up on the screen, doesn't always happen, but it does happen some, Thought it was a dusty PC and i was over heating, now my CPU runs a cool 58C when emulating and i still get them :/

specs are in the sig if they matter at all, glad i'm not the only one experiencing this, I thought i was crazy for a while haha.

Yeah it does also happen when a character talks in battle sometimes.

With async audio set, it actually looks like the emulation stops completely for 200 ms or so. Like, even with async audio there is a tiny pause where there is no audio.

Perhaps I will make a video of it later.

So even the workaround of changing to async audio doesn't make the problem not be noticeable? Damn, that sucks. I wonder if there is anything else we could try (besides running in software mode) to not experience these minor slowdowns in FFX & FFXII.
