the only difference when you turned off the 8-bit texture that I've noticed so far is the attack line will be white, red and yellow instead of blue and red. Other than that, no difference.

*sigh*

guys i'm not trying to increase my fps, i know which options give me more fps

thats not the point of this thread...

and yes there is a difference between having that on or off, do you want me to screencap it for you? the text in the menus get a weird "shadow" it bugs me

the point here is how using the same configuration gives different results on different OS...

Strange, when i turned off the allow 8 bit texture, my menu got to 60 fps from 35-ish. It also speeded up my cutscenes to 55 - 60 fps from 30-ish.

I don't know about you, but my lines are still the correct colors with 8-bit textures off. Tongue

The thing is, it's difficult to know, could be many things. Different OS means different drivers, different load, different settings, different needs, etc. What we do know is you should be using DX10 anyway cause it makes a much bigger difference in speed and compatibility in most games, if you don't get higher speed with DX10 in different games then there's something bad with your system and there's not much we can help with since not everyone has the same problem or even the same system.

If u are emulating in Windows 7, u need Service Pack which enchance not only Pcsx2, but will also enchance other programs. You see, Windows XP itself has reached Service Pack 3, maybe u should compare Windows XP (No service pack installed) with Windows 7. Because we all know even though Windows 7 has been made official, it still got many bugs that bother many people. Because why? Because it doesn't have Service Pack installed. Also, There are many kinds of Windows 7 (Ultimate, Home Premium, Starter, etc). If u tried in Windows 7 Home Premium to play Pcsx2, maybe it could had better performance in Windows 7 Ultimate version. Who knows ?

Taking importance of Operating Systems, that's why I gotta study shrinking Windows 7 by the power of DISM and vLite.

From practicality the Windows 7 which has the least components is Home Basic, avoid Starter that limited your available memory to 2GB even though you had 4GB RAM installed.

And as long as Pcsx2 is a x86 program, I won't switch to windows 7 x64. I suppose x86 program with x86 OS is the best couple.

And i could said the codes in x64 are more complicated ? That's why Pcsx2 in x64 won't emulate at good performance, but who knows ? Maybe I'm wrong . XD

PCSX2 works just as well in both 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems.

Yeah it is. A moment ago I do a clean installation of Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and x64. Experiment on pcsx2 0.9.7 and gsdx11 software, material is the well-known slow FMV of FFX-2. They both gave me the same FPS in the same position.

It just, you cannot take advantage of x64 Operating System, that only x64 programs could do. Leading you have the same speed of x86 applications like PCSX2 in both of Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and x64.
