[FPS] Are my specs good enough?
#1
All right, so I've looked around, and I've seen many threads about "It goes down to 30 FPS" and such, and I have that same problem.

I was only planning on using the emulator for KH2FM+ and KHFM only Tongue2

Currently using: Latest version of PCSX2 0.9.6

Specs:

Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack 3 Build 2600
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile 2.01 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
*Cough* Alienware (Gaming Laptop)

Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 36 Stepping 2-AuthenticAMD ~2010 Mhz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS
Harddrive: 500GB

(If I'm missing something, please ask)

I haven't gotten to overclock it yet, but if I need to, up to what? Tongue2

I've speedhacked it to x3 and on the opening Cinema, it runs at a fine 60FPS, however sound is glitchy, but the graphics don't.

As soon as the opening cinema is over, it jumps down to 30~45 FPS. During gameplay, 20~35FPS. Fighting is the same.

Anyway, hope that is enough information. Thanks in advance to all who help.

Try the latest beta and enable some speedhacks there, x2 cycle rate and "vu cycle stealing" set to slight might help, the EE misc hacks shouldnt cause you trouble either and could help a bit. UHm for sound plugins try ZeroSPU2 or just checking the "disable effects processing" option in SPU2-X, setting the clamps in "config > advanced" to "none" could help too.

Other than that, your CPU is pretty weak but should be enough for this games... I think they also get a pretty good boost from using the D3D10 renderer so you could be losing extra speed.

So, I'm trying the beta emulator.

So far, the menu is 100% fine.

The cinema is choppyish, but it can run at 100% if I speed hack it.

Game play is roughly 40% when Im facing characters (Or enemies) and about 60% when I face a wall.

Any ideas?

Set your lappy on a bag of frozen peas and OC to 3Ghz!

nuke: Even that won't do much.

I'd have to disagree with Shadow Lady on you probably being able to get playable results out of that machine. With a single core processor and a non-DX10 graphics card you probably won't be able to get anything else out of that system... That system is, unfortunately, just too out of date to get games playable... You'd be better off sticking to games of an older generation (N64/PSX/SS/etc)

Sell your lappy then buy a highend new one but dont buy i7 laptop cpu, P9900 Core2duo with good gpu directx.10 or above will be good enought.

Oops, I totally read the processor wrong, what Koji says is right unfortunatelly.
