Final Fantasy X and my system compatability
#1
Hey guys I'm new to PS2 emulating and was wondering if it was possible to play Final Fantasy X in any decent FPS range with my current hardware.

CPU: 2ghz dual core
RAM: 2gb
Video: 8600M GT 256 MB

Dell Vostro 17"

Thanks in advance!

2ghz won't give you full speed, you need to be having a cpu running at near 3GHz to run FFX at full speed.

Similar setup as mine... I have a dual core 2GHZ with 4GB of ram and an ATI X1600 512mb and when playing FFX the fps varies.. at times I can get 100% and at other times around 80% and on occasion I have seen 30% so... I would say a better CPU is more important than the ram in this case.. if possible stick a 3ghz cpu in yer pc, im using a laptop so don't have that luxury..
Specs:
CPU - AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition Quad Core Socket AM2+ (940 pin) 2511.36mhz
MB - ASUSTek Crosshair II Formula Motherboard - nForce 780a SLI SPP (MCP Southbridge)
RAM - 8gb DDR2 Dual Channel Corsair PC2-6400
GFX - NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512mb (I do have a 550GT TI 1GB)
OS - Windows 7 64bit/Fedora 13 KDE

I had a Celeron 2.4 at 2.4-2.8 GHZ and even I could play a few games...

2 of them very well in fact...

And yes it's a single core and it had a Radeon X1650 Pro...

Dual Core is a Godsend....
Q9550 @ 4.0 GHZ 24/7
4 GB Kingston valueram
Gigabyte EP45 UD3L p45 Mobo
Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 OC Edition

Asus 1201N Quad-Thread CPU @ 1.6 GHZ /Nvidia ION Netbook Coming Soon...

on my 2.2 with an 8400 I can get about 35-40 fps, which, for FFX is more than playable, there's no major timing needs in it, I would call that decient.

When I had T7100 1.8 GHz I had these similar situations with FFX, even there were areas in which it ran at more than 100% (75 fps was the record IIRC, in areas like Cavern of the Stolen Faith). But I never had a slowdown worse than 60%. But I'm talking about T7100 and Pcsx2 0.9.2. Haven't tried again the entirely game in 0.9.6 with T7700, but generally I have no speed issues now.

Ok I have the game but I'm trying to get it loaded via daemon tools, its giving me this error first:

BOOT ERROR > SYSTEM.CNF not found (no clue what is causing this)

Then when I try to boot the CD/DVDROM virtual drive it says:
*CDVD Disk Open: 1 tracks (1 to 1):
* * Track 1: Data (Mode 1) (120 sectors)
* CDVD Disk Type: Illegal Disk

?? I own the game and everything, through demon tools im mounting the .img file which I also converted to a .mds/.mdf files through daemon tools. Any help would be much apriciated I want to play this classic again.

EDIT: I'm a huge noob at this but can see it becoming quite the hobby in the near future, I think I forgot to burn the image and create an ISO but I have no clue what to do with it.

This is from what I understand. Maybe you didn't know how to properly create an iso from your disk or this one was corrupted. Now that you mention that you created a new iso and use Daemon Tools, maybe you could try right clicking on the Daemon Tools icon on the taskbar > mount image > selecting your iso file, open Pcsx2 and use PEOPS CDVD plugin (make sure you select "W2K/XP IOCTL scsi commands" and the *right* disk drive), and File > Run CD/DVD.

If you want to know, I ripped my iso's using Linuzapps CDVD plugin.

Rip the disc to ISO, not to mdf, and load it with Linuzapps plugin.
